The University of New Mexico (UNM) is a public research university in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Founded in 1889, UNM offers bachelor's, master's, doctoral, and professional degree programs in multiple fields. The university appears in the Breaking Bad universe in many situations.

In 1994, Gustavo Fring established a chemistry scholarship at the University of New Mexico under former partner Max Arciniega's name
- Gale Boetticher is a recipient of this scholarship and receives a BS from UNM
Better Call Saul[]
- After the death of his brother Chuck McGill, Jimmy McGill donates money to the School of Law to establish a reading room named after Chuck.
- Kim Wexler and several other associates and employees at Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill are graduates of UMN School of Law. Paige Novick is also an alumna.
- Jimmy McGill regularly hires the UNM film students Joey Dixon, "Drama Girl", and "Sound Guy" for various projects, notably filming commercials for Saul Goodman Productions.
- Gale Boetticher continued to work in the chemistry department. He used the university's facilities to test samples of Methamphetamine for purity, at the request of Gustavo Fring, and even offered to cook a small batch in the university lab.

- Krazy-8 claims to be a graduate of UNM in Business Administration ("...and the Bag's in the River")
- Marie phoned Skyler to ask if the White family would like to go to a Chinese restaurant near UNM with her and Hank. ("Seven Thirty-Seven")
- Walt, known that Skyler wants to write a novel, mentions to Skyler that there is a creative writing seminar hosted by UNM, and offers to attend it with her.
