There are wolves and sheep in this world, kid. Wolves and sheep. Figure out which one you're gonna be.

Season 2[]

The Con Man appears in a flashback in 1973, entering Charles Sr.'s Corner Store in Cicero, Illinois, and tells Charles that he has a sick son and needs some money and that his car won't start. Before Charles can give him some cash, a young Jimmy McGill immediately realizes that he's lying and pulls his father over to tell him that he's being dishonest and to turn him away, as his father is well-known for falling for every lie that is told to him by anyone who wants a handout. However, the ever gullible Charles just can't fathom someone lying to him and tells Jimmy that he could be wrong. When the grifter pretends to leave and apologizes for wasting his time, Charles convinces him to stay and gives him the cash and goes to the storage room to find spark plugs, wanting to start the man's alleged car.

With Charles indisposed, the Con Man buys two cartons of cigarettes before telling Jimmy about how there are "wolves and sheep" in this world and that he has to choose which one to be for survival. He leaves just as Charles comes back with the spark plugs. ("Inflatable").
