Take off the space blanket, Chuck.
Jimmy McGill to his brother.[src]

space blanket (also known as a Mylar blanket, emergency blanket, first aid blanket, safety blanket, thermal blanket, weather blanket, heat sheet, or shock blanket) is an especially low-weight, low-bulk blanket made of heat-reflective thin plastic sheeting.

During the last few years of his life, Chuck McGill frequently used a space blanket to protect himself from anything electrical nearby. Mike Ehrmantraut also used a space blanket while he and Jimmy were in the desert.

Chuck McGill[]

Because Chuck McGill suffered from Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (a group of symptoms purportedly caused by exposure to an electromagnetic field), he started living in an electricity-free home, relying on gas lamps for light. Before entering the house, visitors had to place all of their electronics in the mail-box and "ground themselves" (remove the static charge from their body). Chuck wore space blankets to shield himself against static electricity. ("Uno")

While secretly recording Jimmy's confession to altering the documents, Chuck covered his entire house in the material used to make space blankets, in an attempt to make his condition seem worse than it is ("Klick"). He also sometimes wore a suit with an inside lining of space blankets while attending meetings at Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill.

Mike and Jimmy[]

Having picked up the $7 million for Lalo from the Salamanca cousins, Jimmy heads back but is attacked by members of a Colombian Gang sent by Juan Bolsa ("Bad Choice Road"), before being saved by Mike. That leads to the pair wandering around in the desert, trying to lose the tail of a surviving member of the gang who attacked Jimmy. When night falls and the temperature begins to drop, Mike pulls out a space blanket to keep warm, offering a spare to Jimmy. He steadfastly refuses to take it, despite clearly being cold.

After a rousing speech from Mike about doing these things for the people they love, Jimmy has a plan. Putting on the space blanket, he makes himself an easy target - serving as bait so that Mike can kill the man behind the wheel.

As shown in a flashback, the space blanket is subsequently abandoned in the desert by Jimmy. ("Bagman")
