Feud with the Salamancas
Following Tuco’s arrest for his assault against Mike, Tuco’s uncle, Hector, requested that Mike confess to the authorities that the handgun actually belonged to him, thus reducing Tuco’s jail time. After Mike failed to comply with the cartel boss’s demands, Hector sent his enforcers to Mike’s house on numerous separate occasions to coerce him into obedience. Despite this, Mike took precautions and lay traps to ensure his safety and was thus able to defend himself against the cartel. ("")
Upon finding a GPS tracker in his car's gas cap following his assassination attempt on Hector, Mike managed to obtain an identical device and drained the battery of the original before replacing it with his own. As a result, one of Gustavo Fring’s men arrived at Mike’s house late at night to replace the tracker with a fully-charged one, unaware that Mike was watching him through his living room window. With the henchman believing Mike’s tracker to be the original, he takes it with him, allowing Mike to track his movements and investigate the cartel. ("")
Investigation by the DEA
After the DEA begin investigating Gustavo Fring's drug empire, Mike's role as the security consultant for Los Pollos Hermanos quickly arouses suspicion, leading to a persistent investigation into Mike. One step ahead of the authorities, Mike's bug in ASAC Hank Schrader's office reveals that the DEA have obtained a search warrant for Mike's address. Mike dumps his arsenal and surveillance equipment into a well in the desert before returning home to prepare a cup of coffee while awaiting the arrival of the police. Soon after, the DEA arrive to search Mike's residence, with the operation being overseen by a gloating Hank; however, much to Hank's dismay, the search uncovers nothing of interest and the authorities leave empty-handed.
