Jimmy! You asked if you were bad for me. That's not it, we are bad for each other. (...) Jimmy... I have had the time of my life with you. But we are bad for everyone around us. Other people suffer because of us. Apart we're... okay, but together... we're poison. (...) I love you, too. But so what? (...) I knew he was alive. (...) It was about a month ago. I saw that car following me again. And it turned out that Mike Ehrmantraut had guys watching both of us, watching for Lalo. (...) Jimmy... I thought... I thought it was a one-in-a-million chance that he'd come for us. I thought he would be caught if he did. And I told myself I was protecting you. But that's not the truth. The real reason I didn't tell you was because I knew what you'd do. (...) You'd... you'd blame yourself. You'd fear for me. You'd want us to run and hide until you were sure I was safe. You would pull the plug on the scam, and then... and then, uh... we'd break up. And I didn't want that. Because I was having too much fun.
― Kim telling Jimmy McGill why she's leaving him.[src]

Kimberly "Kim" Wexler is an American retired business lawyer and public defender who worked in Albuquerque, New Mexico, currently residing in Titusville, Florida as an employee at a sprinkler manufacturer company and a volunteer at a pro bono legal services firm. She is the ex-wife and former confidant of retired lawyer and convicted criminal Jimmy McGill, whom she met while working at Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill (HHM) as an intern, and had dated for several years before their six-month marriage. Despite retiring as a lawyer, Kim's New Mexico bar card does not have an expiration date, allowing her to visit Jimmy in prison as a lawyer.

Throughout her law career, Kim received praise as a lawyer for being highly skilled at negotiation and devising legal strategies in order to get her clients the best deals possible, though she was sometimes undermined at HHM by Howard Hamlin and Chuck McGill, her former bosses at HHM. After leaving HHM, Kim became the head of Schweikart & Cokely's banking division and hired Kevin Wachtell and Paige Novick from Mesa Verde Bank and Trust as her clients, before quitting the firm and dropping Mesa Verde to focus her attention on pro bono work. She and Jimmy also briefly worked at their own startup law firm Wexler McGill, which consisted of twin solo firms. Outside of the law, Kim had a few part-time jobs including working at Saul Goodman Productions, and also assisted Jimmy with various cons and schemes after being drawn in by Jimmy's cons.

Kim's success at completing law school and becoming an associate at HHM helped inspire Jimmy to pursue a legal career. During her relationship with Jimmy, Kim loved him unconditionally and personally defended him on numerous occasions, including representing him as his lawyer at his bar hearing and berating Jimmy's Cartel client Lalo Salamanca for his mistreatment of Jimmy as his lawyer. Kim and Jimmy got married in 2004, with Kim also becoming Jimmy's confidant to gain spousal privilege. Despite Kim and Jimmy's unconditional love for each other, Kim left him and Albuquerque after one of their schemes went horribly wrong, causing her to believe that they were bad for everyone around them. She subsequently retired permanently from her law career, and divorced Jimmy later that year. Kim then moved to Florida and got a job in the advertising department at Palm Coast Sprinkler, later volunteering at a local pro bono legal services firm.

Warning, the following may contain spoilers.
Born in 1968, Kim grew up in Red Cloud, Nebraska with her mother. Her other family includes a grandmother and a cousin. During her youth, Kim and her mother moved frequently around Nebraska, and she often had to take care of herself due to her mother's drunkenness, leading her to become self-reliant. Dissatisfied with the few opportunities she had in Nebraska, Kim moved to Colorado and enrolled in the University of Colorado-Boulder. After graduating with a Bachelorā€™s degree, Kim moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and attended law school, later getting a job as an intern at HHM, where she met Jimmy, who was working in the mail room. The two began a relationship shortly thereafter.

Jimmy's intuition about activity at a local nursing home, Sandpiper Crossing, results in a prolonged lawsuit. Kim attempts to defend Jimmy's unethical legal manipulations to Howard Hamlin and Chuck McGill, which threatens her career. Even when she is able to secure the large regional bank Mesa Verde as a client for HHM, Howard downplays her contributions. Kim and Jimmy's start co-located law offices and Kim brings Mesa Verde with her. Chuck succeeds at persuading Mesa Verde to return to HHM. Jimmy forges paperwork in a Mesa Verde filing, which makes Chuck appear incompetent and causes Mesa Verde to return to Kim. Kim is pleased to have the account but Jimmy's machinations lead to a confrontation with Chuck that results in Jimmy's law license being suspended, Chuck being compelled to retire from HHM, and Chuck committing suicide.

Kim becomes bored with banking law and begins taking on pro bono criminal defense cases. She subsequently proposes to Richard Schweikart, the managing partner of the firm Schweikart & Cokely who are defending the Sandpiper chain, that she bring Mesa Verde with her and become a partner in charge of a new banking division. Finding herself drawn in by Jimmy's schemes, Kim later decides to quit the Schweikart firm and representing Mesa Verde while continuing to handle pro bono criminal defense cases. Howard correctly suggests that Kim is throwing her career away at Jimmy's instigation but Kim scoffs at Howard's belief that she cannot think for herself.

After Jimmy regains his law license and begins practicing as Saul Goodman, he becomes increasingly involved with the Salamanca drug cartel. Kim proposes that they marry so they can invoke spousal privilege, enabling Jimmy to speak freely about his clients. Lalo is accused of murder under an assumed name and held in jail. When Jimmy goes missing after driving to a remote desert location to pick up bail money, Kim unsuccessfully attempts to learn his location by revealing to Lalo that she is Jimmy's wife. While Jimmy is stuck in the desert with Mike Ehrmantraut, he admits that Kim knows about his involvement with the Salamancas, which causes Mike to warn Jimmy that Kim's life is as much at risk as theirs.

After posting Lalo's bail, Jimmy conceals Mike's involvement by lying to Lalo. Lalo goes to the same location where Jimmy picked up the bail money, searches for Jimmy's car, and realizes it contains several bullet holes, a detail that contradicts Jimmy's story. Lalo confronts Jimmy and Kim, and Kim berates Lalo for not trusting Jimmy. Lalo appears satisfied with Kim's explanation and departs. Kim and Jimmy check into a hotel so that Lalo will not find them if he returns. Still angry at Howard, Kim proposes to Jimmy that they obtain Jimmy's share of the multi-million dollar settlement from the Sandpiper Crossing lawsuit sooner by gaslighting Howard at a mediation hearing to force an early settlement. Jimmy is unnerved by the callousness of Kim's plan but agrees to participate nonetheless. The scheme against Howard ultimately succeeds after he embarrasses himself at the Sandpiper settlement hearing, forcing HMM and Davis & Main to accept a settlement lower than they sought. Howard pieces together the con and confronts Kim and Jimmy at their apartment that night, but Lalo arrives to talk with them and kills Howard with a gunshot to the head. Lalo has Kim drive to Gus' house to shoot him, but she is apprehended by Mike, to whom she explains the situation. She also tells Gus that Jimmy convinced Lalo to send her instead of him, through which Gus deduces that the assassination attempt was a ruse. Kim is reunited with Jimmy at her apartment the following morning; Mike has Howard's death staged as a suicide and instructs the two never to speak of the events of that night. However, the guilt proves to be too much and she leaves Jimmy shortly thereafter, surrendering her law license to find a new life.

Kim ultimately relocates to Florida and takes up a desk job at Palm Coast Sprinkler, living a simple, mundane life. One day, she receives a call from Jimmy; she tells him to turn himself in, but he reacts angrily and mockingly tells her to do the same. Kim takes his words to heart and flies to Albuquerque, where she submits a written affidavit to the district attorney's office detailing hers and Jimmy's role in character-assassinating Howard. She also gives a copy of the document to Howard's widow Cheryl, giving her grounds to file a civil suit against Kim. Shortly thereafter she began volunteering at a local pro bono legal services firm. Kim is later summoned back to Albuquerque in the wake of Jimmy's arrest due to a testimony he gave allegedly implicating her, but during his trial, Jimmy admits it was a false statement he made simply to get Kim in the room. Jimmy goes on to confess the extent of his role in Walter White's criminal empire as well as his sabotaging Chuck's malpractice insurance. He receives a sentence of 86 years; Kim visits him in prison to bid him farewell.

History

Background information

Young Kim Wexler S5

Kim during her teenage years.

Kimberly Wexler was born on February 13, 1968, and grew up in Red Cloud, Nebraska. She lived with her mother during her childhood, her other known relatives include a grandmother and cousin. As a child she never had a house to live in as her family never actually owned one due to being very poor. Kim and her mother would often flee from temporary residences before eviction occurred. ("JMM",  "Wexler v. Goodman")

Young Kim Wexler

Kim in 1984, being confronted after being caught attempting to shoplift a pair of earrings and a necklace.

In 1984, a teenage Kim sat in the back office of a department store. The store manager entered the office with Kim's mother, telling her that the girl was caught attempting to shoplift a pair of earrings and a necklace. Kim's mother seemingly admonished her daughter and threatened to take the value of the items out of her allowance, but the manager graciously declined either that or calling the police. Outside of the store, Kim's mother dropped the facade and showed that she didn't care about what happened, revealing that she herself had shoplifted the same items, and gave them to Kim. As they drove away from the store, Kim vacantly looked out of the car window. ("Axe and Grind")

Dissatisfied with the few opportunities she had in Nebraska, Kim moved to Colorado and enrolled in the University of Colorado-Boulder. After graduating with a Bachelorā€™s degree, Kim moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and enrolled in the JD program at the University of New Mexico School of Law, and on the side she found a job in the mail room of the firm Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill (HHM), who paid for Kimā€™s law school tuition. When Christian "Combo" Ortega stole a baby Jesus from a Nativity set as a juvenile, Jesse Pinkman accompanied Combo to juvenile court, where he was represented by Kim, who helped Combo get out of trouble. ("Waterworks")

Young Kim and Jimmy

Kim and Jimmy McGill in 1993.

In 1993, Jimmy is delivering mail at HHM and talks to his co-workers about a betting pool for the Academy Awards he has organized. He crosses paths with Kim, who is also doing mail rounds. Jimmy's elder brother Chuck enters the office to a big round of applause, having just won a big inheritance lawsuit using his knowledge of obscure case law. When Chuck approaches the pair, he answers Kim's questions on case law, but is annoyed by Jimmy. After Kim's boss Howard collects Chuck, Kim continues her rounds, and Jimmy walks past HHM's law library. He turns around and steps inside, deciding to become a lawyer like Chuck and Kim. ("PiƱata") Kim worked her way up to becoming one of the go-to litigators at HHM, which helped inspire Jimmy to pursue a legal career himself. With HHM incurring the brunt of her law school tuition, she felt an extreme sense of obligation to the firm. ("Bad Choice Road")

It was at this job where she first met Jimmy McGill. It is implied that they started some kind of uncommitted romantic or sexual relationship during this time, as at the start of the show they are not officially together but talk about things that they seem to have done in the past, i.e., Jimmy's late night call to Kim and her knowing about the "robot sex voice". ("Nacho")

Better Call Saul

Season 1

Kim and Jimmy McGill discussing the Kettleman case in HHM's parking garage.

When Jimmy confronts Howard over HHM's weekly stipend to his older brother, HHM co-founder Chuck McGill, Kim tries to keep her distance from Jimmy as much as she can. However, after Jimmy's meeting with Howard, Kim joins Jimmy for a smoking break in the parking garage. ("Uno")

Jimmy meets with Craig and Betsy Kettleman, a couple accused of embezzling county funds and seeking legal representation. They decide not to hire Jimmy and instead turn to HHM, where Kim handles their case. ("Mijo") Kim then receives a puzzling phone call from Jimmy asking about Craig and Betsy Kettleman, and learns the next day that her clients have disappeared. Jimmy shrugs off Kim's attempts to connect his phone call to the disappearance.

Kim later learns that Jimmy has been arrested and that one of his clients, Ignacio "Nacho" Varga, is suspected of kidnapping Craig and Betsy Kettleman. With Jimmy being pressured by the police to question Nacho about the family's whereabouts, he admits to Kim that he warned them about Nacho, prompting them to flee. Eventually, Jimmy finds Craig and Betsy Kettleman, who again turn him down and go back to Kim. ("Nacho")

Better-call-saul-episode-104-kim-seehorn-2-sized-935

Kim and Howard Hamlin looking at Jimmy's billboard, blatantly ripping off HHM's logo and trademarks.

When Jimmy sets up a billboard blatantly ripping off HHM's logo and trademarks, Howard sends Kim to deliver a notice to Jimmy summoning him to court. When she tries to warn Jimmy against antagonizing HHM, he points out how undervalued she is at the firm and implies she would be better off going into business with him; Kim refuses. When the court rules against Jimmy, he stages a publicity stunt in which a news crew sees him "rescuing" a worker removing the billboard. As the incident is shown on television, giving Jimmy free publicity, Howard and Kim can't help but admire his ploy. ("Hero")

During a social call, Kim tells Jimmy how she envies his interesting life. They are called to the hospital after Chuck is tased by the police and sent to the emergency room. Chuck's physician, Dr. Lara Cruz, demonstrates to Kim and Jimmy that Chuck's purported electromagnetic hypersensitivity is psychosomatic and urges Jimmy to decide whether or not to have Chuck committed. ("Alpine Shepherd Boy")

Jimmy takes Kim by surprise by offering her a corner office in his new work space. She reluctantly tells him that she can't go into business with him, believing she owes HHM for providing for her tuition and that she'll become a partner in two years. However, when Craig and Betsy Kettleman fire Kim for proposing a plea deal in which Craig returns the stolen money and serves sixteen months in prison, she falls out of favor with Howard and is sent to document reviewā€”a.k.a. the "cornfield"ā€”as punishment. Jimmy uses Mike Ehrmantraut to force Craig and Betsy Kettleman to return to Kim and accept her plea deal. ("Bingo")

Working late at night, Kim gets a call from Jimmy, who immediately starts on the smooth talk. She calls him out and he asks her to print out some things for him. She wonders how this going to be paid for because it's hours of work and is surprised to find out that Chuck has decided to pay the tab. She expresses concerns about Chuck's condition but is convinced to do the printing. ("RICO")

Kim meeting with Jimmy.

Kim's worries seem unfounded when Chuck seems able to come to the office, albeit with all the lights and electronics needing to be turned off. Chuck's arrival seems like a watershed moment and the office offers him a round of applause when he arrives. They meet in the conference room so that Jimmy and Chuck can explain the class action lawsuit they've found dealing with the residents in Sandpiper care homes. Despite Jimmy's expectations, Howard refuses to take Jimmy on as a lawyer and the meeting falls apart. This has pricked Kim's sense of fair play, which makes her put aside her private policy of keeping her relationship with Jimmy out of the office. She goes to Howard and grills him on Jimmy's case, asking why Jimmy deserves to be shafted. Howard initially dresses her down in response, but as she moves to leave, he relents and asks her to return where he tells the truth. Armed with the truth, Kim is nonetheless unable to tell it Jimmy, but feels she must do something. She goes to the nail salon and defies his expectation that she's there to simply back him up. She asks him to take the offer Howard had given him: to be paid for his trouble, and takes his betrayed diatribe without complaint. She insists again that he takes the deal and leaves. ("Pimento")

Jimmy eventually finds out the truth himself: that Chuck sabotaged his attempt to join HHM as a lawyer, both back when he initially passed the bar and again with the Sandpiper leverage. When he decides to take the deal with this information, he apologizes to Kim who explains that she didn't want him to hate his own brother. When the Sandpiper case gets bigger, HHM has to involve another law firm, Davis & Main. She and Howard put Jimmy's name forward and they're interested. Kim calls Jimmy to tell him that they have an offer for him and it's for a partner track. She tells him when they want to meet him and he thanks her. ("Marco")

Season 2

Kim and Howard are waiting inside the courthouse for Jimmy to show up. He does, but after a brief introduction, he takes Kim aside and asks her outright whether or not his taking the job will affect their chances together. Kim is taken aback and gives the appropriate answer to the question as best she can: no, it wouldn't. Armed with this information, Jimmy passes on the opportunity. Unable to understand Jimmy's decision: one that she would have snapped up in a hot moment in his position, Kim tracks Jimmy down and finds him floating in a posh hotel's swimming pool under an assumed name, "Mr. Cumpston".

Kim talking with Jimmy.

Jimmy's invitation to join him falls on deaf ears but she does want to talk to him, so she invites him to head to the bar. Once inside, he orders the prohibitively expensive tequila, Zafiro AƱejo, but Kim, mindful both of her ethical duty as a lawyer and wary of Jimmy getting himself into more trouble in this seeming midlife crisis, intercepts the order and asks for something more in their price range. Jimmy insists that this isn't a crisis, but a reaction to his no longer needing to live and die on Chuck's approval any more. Becoming a lawyer was only a way to impress him and that failed, so he's decided to return to his 'real' self, 'Slippin' Jimmy'. Kim points out that he was an excellent lawyer, despite his reasons, but Jimmy is convinced that the only part where he excelled was the same part that was good at conning.

Better-call-saul-episode-201-jimmy-odenkirk-small-8-935

Kim and Jimmy during one of their cons.

He decides to illustrate his point and he has a prime target - Ken, a man who is boasting into his phone about his recent successes. Jimmy has no problem thinking of him as good prey for a little fun. He interrupts his call, asking him to settle something between him and 'his sister', indicating Kim. Kim initially holds back, but when asked for a name she gives him 'Giselle'. With Jimmy as 'Viktor with a "k"', he and Giselle ask him for a financial consultation. Warming up to the situation, Kim coyly suggests the tequila that Jimmy tried to order before. Ken, believing he has a couple of ripe ones on his hook agrees, unaware of how expensive it is. The bottle drunk, Viktor and Giselle make their exit, making sure they're long gone when Ken finds out the bad news. Kim and Jimmy are giddy from their successful con, and a little drunk, so they find themselves grinning at each other. Kim finally takes the plunge and kisses Jimmy.

Better-call-saul-episode-201-jimmy-odenkirk-small-3-935

Kim hugging Jimmy after their con was successful.

The next morning, however, with Kim putting on her 'uniform', she remembers her responsibilities. Getting involved in a scam and then sleeping with Jimmy was a lot of fun, but she's a lawyer, and one that has to answer to a lot of variables, including the fact that one of her bosses has been systematically lying to Jimmy because he resents him so much and the other has just had his generous efforts refused by him. It's a complicated situation and she has to tread carefully.

Kim shuts Jimmy's suggestion of a repeat of the previous evening down. Jimmy doesn't argue and leaves her apartment with her. Later, though, Jimmy leaves a message in Kim's phone that he has another mark for them. Kim doesn't respond, so Jimmy comes to the conclusion that taking the job in Davis & Main was, in fact, what he needed to do for Kim. ("Switch")

Proving, for the moment, that this is true, Kim makes sure for their first big meeting between the two firms she and Jimmy are seated together. During the meeting, the pair seem attentive above board, but below are content to play footsie.

Better-call-saul-episode-202-jimmy-odenkirk-small-6-935

Kim meeting Jimmy.

After the meeting, they go to the garage for a cigarette, where they enjoy imagining what Jimmy is going to do with his newfound perks in Davis & Main. Kim delights Jimmy with including herself in Jimmy's new dream life. Cigarette smoked, Jimmy goes for his car but Kim stops him to give him a gift. Jimmy gives her grief about her 'wrapping' also known as a brown paper bag and pulls a face as the '2nd' markered in by a certain Kim onto a World's Best Lawyer travel mug. She just gives a comical shrug and tells him she's just keeping it real. Jimmy kisses her and gets into his car, fitting the mug into his holder.

In the next meeting of the two firms, Kim and Jimmy are again sitting together, which is fortunate, because now they're having to surrender their electronic devices - a sure sign that Chuck is coming in. Jimmy's confidence, previously high, shudders to a halt. Kim reminds him that she's there with him, by squeezing his knee. It does the trick and Jimmy rallies to finish the meeting.

Better-call-saul-episode-202-jimmy-odenkirk-small-5-935

Kim and Jimmy having a conversation in her apartment.

Later, Jimmy comes to Kim's apartment to share on his 'props' for getting his client out of trouble. Kim is initially amused by the story of his client trying to explain away his suspicious activity but when Jimmy confesses that he manufactured evidence to make the story stick, she balks.

It's not a moral objection but an exposure one. By making the video himself, he's risking his new job at Davis & Main and disbarment. Kim doesn't want to tell him not to do these things, but she has to make sure he knows that she can't hear about them. He agrees to not tell her. ("Cobbler")

When Chuck continues to attend meetings, he starts to undercut Jimmy's methods. His success rate at getting clients onboard is suspicious and, despite the fact that he had nothing to say about it when it was just the two of them, Chuck worries about Jimmy using illegal solicitation to get clients. Kim withdraws from Jimmy as well, in the face of the accusation, so Jimmy tells the meeting that he'll try to avoid the appearance of solicitation in the future.

After the meeting Kim tries to avoid him, but he follows her. She gets him to admit that solicitation did happen and is annoyed that she has to explain that it's not about how legal it is, but it's about how much risk Jimmy is taking when he's finally getting acknowledgement as a good lawyer. She also points out that she got Howard to vouch for him, so what he does will reflect on Howard who then will reflect that back on her.

Jimmy found another way to get responses, an advertisement that he gives Kim a private screening for. She is full of praise for the ad. She's surprised that Cliff gave it the green light but accepts Jimmy's "Why wouldn't he?" as a response. The next time Kim and Jimmy are over in his apartment, they are watching Ice Station Zebra and having takeout and wine. It's a pretty cozy situation until Jimmy's phone rings. Kim is reluctant to let Jimmy answer it, but it's the boss and that worries her.

BCS 203 09

Kim and Jimmy watching a film.

When the call is done, Jimmy reassures her that it's only for congratulations, even at this time of night, and she accepts that as the truth as he goes to sit back beside her and finish the film. ("Amarillo") But the next day, Kim is called to a meeting with both Chuck and Howard, finding out from them that Jimmy actually did an end run around Cliff to get the ad made. She lies for Jimmy's benefit, responding to an angered Howard that she didn't think it was necessary to warn them.

Howard sends Kim to document review as punishment and she takes it, working late into the night to where Jimmy, who'd been trying to contact her, finds her. He wants to get her out of the mess he's thrown her in, but Kim isn't having it, making him promise not to go to Howard. She's going to do her time and get out of there herself. ("Gloves Off")

Kim starts to ignore Jimmy's messages, including the one that declares he's found a way for her to get out of doc review. But of course, he knows where to find her and tells her his idea in person that she should sue HHM for how badly she's been treated. Kim is not concerned about whether or not she'll win such a case but about the fact that even if she does, she'll effectively end her career. No one will work with her if she turns against the firm which paid for her education and gave her work.

Kim at Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill (HHM).

She also doesn't appreciate Jimmy coming to her rescue, even offering to quit Davis & Main for her. Sure, his actions may have been responsible for her current fall in favor, but she was the one who decided to make the push to vouch for him and it'll be her that'll get herself out of this. She does ask him to do one thing: survive a week without breaking the rules of the Bar Association or making his boss angry and don't kid himself that he's doing this for her benefit.

Kim is delighted, meeting Paige and Kevin Wachtell, the CEO, with Howard by her side. The meeting is successful, but when they see them off and Kim starts offering to draw up a list of people to work on the case, Howard cuts her off, saying that she would be too busy working in doc review to do that.

Kim is left starting to wonder if she's ever going to get back in Howard's good graces. But she goes back to work, finishing at sunrise, leaving documents off at Howard's office, which, much to her surprise, disturbs Chuck, who'd taken to coming to the office when no one else was there, to spare the office the trouble of his presence.

He asks Kim to get him coffee as he has no other way to get it at the office without electricity and invites her into his office. He explains that they have something in common: Jimmy compromising them. He also tells her about his father, in his eyes a good, but naive character, owning a shop, which had a $14000 shortfall. He suggests that, despite his father's protests to the contrary, Jimmy took the money for himself.

He does promise that he'll support her to get Howard to let her out of doc review because she's a far too capable lawyer to be dismissed. ("Rebecca")

Kim and Jimmy's relationship is still on the rocks, but Jimmy has begun to send her messages of him singing to her. Kim finds herself looking forward to them, smiling as she hears his bad singing. She misses him.

Kim is now, thanks to Chuck, back in her old office. Howard is still not impressed with her, but puts up a front for the clients.

He sends her to battle a hopeless motion in the Sandpiper case, not telling her that she'd be doing so alone. She fights it well enough to attract the attention of Richard Schweikart, the head lawyer of the firm representing Sandpiper, Schweikart and Cokely. He invites her to lunch.

BCS 206 06

Kim and Richard Schweikart having a conversation.

Kim, although wary, accepts the offer and Schweikart talks about what happened. He too was once overlooked by the senior partners of the firm he first worked at and left to argue a hopeless case by himself. He felt what she did, that he was beholden to the people who paid for his college.

He makes an astonishing offer: he would pay off her remaining loans and hire her on, putting her on cases away from Sandpiper to avoid conflicts of interest.

Given room to consider the offer, Kim returns to work. Howard's oppressive mood is hitting Kim in the face, particularly when his secretary brings him papers that she has to do over her lunch. She refuses, ditching the office and returning to the restaurant where Schweikart made his offer, even ordering the drink that he had.

Sitting at the bar, thinking, Kim meets the eye of a man who is also at the bar. He buys her a drink and while she's not really impressed she smiles and invites him over. Then she's calling Jimmy, using his phrasing to entice him to come down to her and being "Viktor". ("Bali Ha'i")ā€‹

Kim with Jimmy at HHM.

Jimmy approaches Kim and attempts to convince her to become a partner in their own law firm. Kim agrees only on the condition that Jimmy play it "straight and narrow". Jimmy admits that he can only be himself, so Kim politely refuses his offer. ("Inflatable")

Jimmy accepts Kim's offer, and Kim goes to announce her resignation from HHM to Howard. Howard accepts Kim's resignation, and they both race to secure Mesa Verde. Kim succeeds in securing Mesa Verde as her first solo client, and she agrees with Jimmy to set up their practices in a re-purposed dentists' office. After Chuck's intervention makes her lose Mesa Verde to HHM, Kim begins to have doubts about their future, but Jimmy reassures her that there will be other opportunities like Mesa Verde. ("Fifi")

Disappointed with HHM and Chuck in particular, Mesa Verde decides to go back to Kim. Jimmy and Kim arrive at Chuck's house to pick up the Mesa Verde files, where Chuck accuses Jimmy of sabotaging his case. Kim sides with Jimmy and claims Chuck simply made a mistake, and she points out that Chuck has no concrete evidence, and his actions have shaped Jimmy into who he is today. Once alone in the car with Jimmy, however, Kim angrily punches him. Later that night, in bed, Kim tells Jimmy she never wants to discuss the matter, and she warns Jimmy to make sure all of his tracks are covered. ("Nailed")

Kim relays this to Jimmy and the former takes the latter on as her legal client, advising him that the tape is no legal threat to him. ("Witness")

Jimmy is arrested following a few harsh but hesitant words with Chuck and chooses to represent himself (against Kim's wishes), pleads not guilty and posts bail. Jimmy later explains what happened during his break-in and tells Kim to work on Mesa Verde while he works his own legal battle, to which she flatly agrees. Jimmy talks with Kim outside of Wexler-McGill and informs her that he can avoid jail time, but will have to confess to his felony break-in and submit his confession to the New Mexico Bar Association, which will likely result in disbarment. Kim convinces Jimmy to let her help him fight Chuck's plot. ("Sunk Costs")

After the meeting, Kim confronts Chuck, telling him that she suspects he has a copy of the tape. Chuck confirms her suspicions and states that he plans to submit the tape as evidence in Jimmy's disciplinary hearing. Kim then relays the information to Jimmy, revealing that having Chuck admit the existence of the second tape was all according to their plan. ("Sabrosito")

At a meeting with Mesa Verde, Kim reveals that she feels some regret for destroying Chuck's reputation in the disciplinary hearing. While having dinner with Jimmy, she wonders whether they did the right thing and Jimmy replies what happened to Chuck was his own fault and that she should forget about him. ("Expenses")

Kim being offered a leave of absence after her car accident.

While at lunch, Kim is offered a new client from her Mesa Verde companions when she encounters Howard. She tries to pay back her law school loans to Howard, though he refuses and coldly accuses her of betraying the firm, to which Kim replies that he should not have tried to cover up Chuck's condition. Kim returns to the office to find Jimmy lying on the floor, with his half of the rent, indicating he used the "slip and fall" to coerce the guitar shop into paying him off. Despite Jimmy's assurances, Kim still expresses doubts about Jimmy's ability to pay and considers taking on another client. ("Slip")

Kim takes on Gatwood Oil as a second client, Jimmy returns to the office to give the good news to Kim, but she is too busy preparing for an important meeting with Gatwood Oil and leaves in a rush. However, due to her fatigue from overwork, Kim falls asleep at the wheel and drives her car off the side of the road, crashing into a boulder. ("Fall")

Kim suffers a broken arm from the car accident, and decides to take the opportunity to take a leave of absence from law practice. Jimmy, feeling partly responsible for Kim's situation, finally agrees to break their office lease and have Kim work out of her own home to save costs. ("Lantern")

Kim at Chuck's funeral.

Kim and Jimmy find out about Chuck's death and head to his house to find it ruined by fire. Kim finds out from the fire inspector that the cause of the fire was a knocked-over lantern, causing Chuck to die from smoke inhalation. She tries to help Jimmy deal with the death of his brother, and attends Chuck's funeral. Kim is with Jimmy when Howard admits that he believed Chuck committed suicide because of his role in forcing him out of HHM and blames himself (even though Jimmy is also responsible). Kim is shocked when Jimmy coldly tells Howard that it is his "cross to bear". ("Smoke")

Kim starts to become uneasy over Jimmy's behavior, believing he is not grieving and is loading his day with job interviews. At HHM, Kim meets with Howard who tells her that Jimmy will be allowed to search Chuck's property for personal items, along with $5,000 to stop him contesting the will, a personal letter from Chuck, and a seat on the scholarship committee board they are setting up in Chuck's name. Kim (completely unaware of Jimmy's own role in Chuck's death) angrily tells Howard that he is forcing Jimmy to suffer with these indignities, and accuses him of being purposefully hurtful by telling Jimmy he believed Chuck killed himself and tells him to stay away. At home, Kim decides not to give Jimmy the letter from Chuck as they enjoy dinner. ("Breathe")

At Mesa Verde, Kim begins working with a new paralegal, Viola Goto, and soon comes to realizes that Mesa Verde's plans for expansion might be beyond her abilities. Feeling overwhelmed, Kim delegates tasks to Viola and then heads to the courthouse. That night, Kim goes over Viola's work and then approaches Jimmy and gives him some of the documents she got from Howard, including Chuck's letter. Jimmy reads the letter and is seemingly unmoved, but the contents reduce Kim to tears. ("Something Beautiful")

Kim urges Jimmy to talk with a therapist. At the courthouse, Kim tries to rediscover her love for the law and is asked to meet with Judge Benedict Munsinger in his chambers. He tells Kim that if he finds her "trolling in his court", she will be put to work as a public defender. Kim goes back to watching the hearings. ("Talk")

At the courthouse, Kim works as a public defender, defending a teenage boy name David Estrada. Kim negotiates a plea agreement with DDA Bill Oakley based on a technicality. David appears to be less than grateful and Kim urges him to turn his life around. Later, Kim treats Jimmy's wounds with ice and iodine, which he claimed were the result of a mugging. Jimmy suddenly agrees to see the therapist Kim recommended. Continuing her work as a public defender, she goes to the house of a woman named Denise after she is a hour late for a court appearance. Helping Denise takes priority over Kim's responsibilities to Mesa Verde, and she is taken to task for hanging up on a phone call with Paige. ("Quite a Ride")

Kim eventually makes a deal with Schweikart & Cokely for them to open a new banking division which she will head. As a result, Kim is able to distribute her Mesa Verde work more to her associates while she can focus on her new job as a public defender but it means not being able to reopen Wexler McGill with Jimmy. ("PiƱata")

Over the next several months, Kim leads a successful life as both a business lawyer and a public defender, helping multiple people as a public defender and helping Mesa Verde open several new divisions across the country. However, as a result, she and Jimmy drift further and further apart. After Huell Babineaux is arrested for assaulting a police officer, Jimmy turns to Kim for help with defending him. Kim is disgusted that Jimmy is running a burner phone business, creating further tension between them, but agrees to take Huell's case and do it her way. Kim discovers that ADA Suzanne Ericsen is treating Huell with unequal justice compared to other similar cases. With Huell almost certain to jump bail, Kim suddenly comes up with an idea and orders Jimmy to stop whatever it is he's planning to do as she buys massive amounts of writing supplies. ("Something Stupid")

Kim and Diane "Something Stupid"

Kim working with her pro-bono client Diana Pender.

Kim sees Jimmy off on a bus to Coushatta, Louisiana, Huell's hometown while she meets with Ericsen alongside three of her associates. Kim offers a deal where Huell pleads to simple battery and accepts probation and time served, but the deal is rejected by Ericsen. Kim's associates give Ericsen several motions related to the case and threaten civil litigation while Ericsen privately tells Kim that she is not impressed with Kim's "shock and awe" tactics. After Jimmy returns, Kim is somewhat cold towards him. The next day, Kim and Ericsen are called into Judge Munsinger's office where he has received hundreds of letters from Coushatta in support of Huell, in reality written by Jimmy or people hired by him. The judge orders Kim and Ericsen to settle the case without turning it into a circus. After Jimmy succeeds in tricking Ericsen with the help of Marshall Dixon's film crew, Ericsen meets with Kim and agrees to a deal where Huell gets four months probation and time served. An elated Kim kisses Jimmy and spends the night with him. The next day, Kim meets with Kevin, Paige and one of her associates and discusses Mesa Verde's expansion, agreeing with Paige about the unfeasibility of Kevin's idea. Throughout the meeting Kim is bored and afterwards visits Jimmy at his potential new office. To Jimmy's surprise, Kim wants to pull another con with him rather than stop after the numerous felonies they committed while helping Huell. ("Coushatta")

Kim arguing with Jimmy.

In Lubbock, Texas, Kim and Jimmy run a scam on the Department of Building Safety. The scam involves swapping out a series of blueprints that will give Mesa Verde a larger branch. Later, Kim is at Schweikart & Cokely when Jimmy calls her to tell her that he did not get his law license back. They meet on the parking deck where Kim finds out that Jimmy did not mention Chuck at all to the committee. When she points this out to Jimmy, he gets angry at the notion of having to feel sympathy for Chuck. The two argue, leading to Kim storming off. Later, Jimmy arrives at Kim's apartment and starts packing, admitting he messed up. Kim asks him if being a lawyer is still what he wants. Jimmy says yes, and she tells him that they can "start with that." ("Wiedersehen")

To mark the one-year anniversary of Chuck's death, Jimmy shows up at Chuck's grave bearing flowers and makes a show of seemingly grieving for his brother; other mourners show up and see him, assuming his grief is sincere. This is revealed to be part of a scheme by Kim to aid Jimmy in reinstating his law license, by making him appear to be more sympathetic towards Chuck than he did before his suspension was extended. Jimmy stands at the grave throughout the day, occasionally taking breaks between visitors so that Kim can supply him with water.

Howard hosts the dedication of HHM's new law library, which has been named after Chuck; Jimmy, Kim, and Rich all attend. Howard is interviewed by Joey's film crew and says that HHM is making a comeback after a tough year, and that the library will become Chuck's lasting legacy. Kim and Joey's crew spread a rumor around the party that Jimmy anonymously donated the money used to build the library. Outside, Kim coaches Jimmy on how to continue the charade.

At Kim's apartment, she and Jimmy go over their strategy for his appeal hearing the following day. Jimmy suggests that he recite the letter Chuck left in his will during the hearing.

Jimmy and Kim arrive at the courthouse, where Jimmy is about to deliver his appeal before the bar committee. Outside the courtroom, Kim gives Jimmy some final words of encouragement, assuring him that she is still on his side. Sensing that the committee is inclined to rule against him, Jimmy flips the script and stops reading from Chuck's letter, instead improvising a speech about how Chuck influenced him to become a lawyer, but constantly withheld his approval. Jimmy promises to try to be a better person and "do everything in my power to be worthy of the name McGill" if the committee votes to reinstate his law license. Jimmy's speech moves Kim and a couple of the committee members to tears.

BCS 410 24

Kim stunned after Jimmy's "S'all good, man!" line.

Outside the courtroom, Jimmy and Kim celebrate his imminent reinstatement. However, Kim's joy turns to confusion and horror as Jimmy reveals that his entire speech was a calculated performance meant to sway the "suckers" on the committee; he never meant one word of his comments about Chuck. Kim is further shocked when Jimmy reveals that he no longer plans to practice law under his own name, contrary to his statement before the bar. As a clerk leads Jimmy into an office to sign some paperwork, Kim asks him what's going on. Jimmy turns back and replies: "S'all good, man!" Kim is left behind in stunned silence. ("Winner")

Season 5

Jimmy tells Kim that his "Saul Goodman" alias gives him a ready-made client base for a criminal law practice. Kim continues balancing her workload between pro bono criminal defense work and Mesa Verde business. When Jimmy suggests Kim use a con to convince a pro bono client to accept a plea bargain, she initially asks him to leave her alone but later finds herself using the con on the client, and feels ashamed about it later. She asks Jimmy to keep his distance from her work, which he agrees to do. Later, Mesa Verde asks Kim to help deal with Everett Acker, an elderly man who refuses to leave his home on land leased from the bank to make way for the bank's planned call center. Acker refuses the bank's attempts at a settlement and Kim finds sympathy for him. When she cannot convince the bank to change its plans, she asks Jimmy to represent Acker and draw out the case. They find potential blackmail information to use against the bank's president, but Kim decides not to use it. Rich Schweikart suggests that Kim disengage from Mesa Verde business because her heart is not in it, but she angrily refuses. Kim offers Jimmy a $75,000 settlement for Acker, promising to personally pay the difference between that figure and what Kevin Wachtell, Mesa Verde's president, agrees to. Jimmy agrees, but at the meeting to finalize the settlement, he makes use of the blackmail information Kim refused to use and Kevin's high regard for his father to coerce Kevin into a settlement more favorable to Acker. Kim tells Jimmy she is upset that he made her the "sucker" for his con and says that because of the lack of trust they either need to separate or get married so they can enjoy spousal privilege.

Kim and Jimmy kiss

Kim and Jimmy passionately kiss after getting married.

Jimmy and Kim marry in a simple courthouse ceremony. Kim finds that Kevin is still willing to have Kim as Mesa Verde's outside counsel despite Jimmy's representation of Acker. Jimmy is asked to represent Lalo Salamanca, a member of the Mexican cartel who was arrested under an alias for murder. Jimmy tells Kim as a test their new relationship, and she is appreciative of his honesty as well as his intent to not fight for Lalo's release on bail. Gus Fring desires Lalo's release and arranges for Mike Ehrmantraut to provide Jimmy information he uses to persuade a judge to grant bail, which the judge sets at $7 million cash. Lalo convinces Jimmy to collect the money from a remote location, paying him $100,000 for the job. Kim warns Jimmy not to be a bagman for the cartel, but Jimmy accepts the job anyway, believing it is a simple errand. While returning with the money, Jimmy is attacked by gunmen. Mike was tracking Jimmy for Gus, and he kills all but one of the attackers. Jimmy's car breaks down and they push it into a ditch and continue a two-day trek across the desert with the money. On the second day they kill the remaining attacker and reach a truck stop and contact Gus for help. When Jimmy does not return as scheduled, Kim pretends to be Lalo's lawyer, visits him in jail, and asks for Jimmy's location. Lalo refuses to tell her and says that Jimmy will be fine because he is a survivor. ("Bagman")

Jimmy posts the bail and meets Lalo after his release. As Jimmy and Mike agreed, Jimmy says his car broke down and he walked alone cross-country so he would not risk losing the money. Lalo accepts this and prepares to leave for Mexico the next day. Jimmy tells Kim the same story, but she realizes he is lying after she sees that he saved his coffee mug, which has a bullet hole. Kim tells Jimmy she will be ready to hear the truth whenever he is ready to reveal it. She stays home the next day to tend to Jimmy's wounds and help him cope with the trauma, but Jimmy opts to go to the courthouse for work instead. Kim returns to S&C, but her mind wanders, and she decides to quit on the spot, leaving Mesa Verde with S&C but taking her pro bono cases. That evening, Jimmy and Kim argue about her decision to quit. Mike calls to warn them about Lalo, who searched for Jimmy's car instead of returning to Mexico. When Lalo arrives at Kim's apartment, he asks Jimmy to repeat the story of his desert trek several times, then reveals that he found bullet holes in Jimmy's car. Kim tells Lalo that the car was probably shot at by passersby for fun, and berates him for not trusting Jimmy. Lalo seems satisfied and leaves. ("Bad Choice Road")

Kim finger gun

Kim's finger gun gesture towards Jimmy as a sign she is confident about proceeding against Howard.

Kim and Jimmy go to a hotel so Lalo will not find them if he returns. Jimmy tells Kim the truth of what happened in the desert and wonders out loud if being with him is bad for her, which she denies. The next day, Kim goes to the courthouse to acquire more pro bono cases from the public defender. She runs into Howard and tells him she quit S&C. Howard assumes Jimmy is responsible and tells her about Jimmy's recent harassment campaign against him. Kim laughs, says she's capable of making her own decisions, and tells Howard he does not understand Jimmy. Howard angrily replies that Chuck was the one who best understood Jimmy. In the hotel room that night, Kim tells Jimmy about her conversation with Howard and in her anger suggests continuing the harassment campaign Jimmy started. As the night continues, Kim's suggestions get more serious, and she suggests they derail Howard's career to force a resolution of the Sandpiper case, which will enable Jimmy to collect his seven-figure share of the settlement sooner. Jimmy advises against it and asks Kim if she is sure she wants to follow through, so Kim repeats his finger gun gesture as a sign she is confident about proceeding against Howard, much to the dismay on Jimmy's face. ("Something Unforgivable")

Craig and Betsy Kettleman ask Cliff to sue for ineffective counsel because Howard supposedly used cocaine during Craig's embezzlement case, but Cliff refuses. Jimmy later attempts to bribe Craig and Betsy Kettleman to keep silent about their role in smearing Howard. When Kim drops Wendy off afterwards, she identifies a car she believes contains undercover police officers, but they continue to follow Kim as she drives away. Mike tells her the men who are following her work for him, that Lalo may still be alive, and Mike is overseeing surveillance of anyone Lalo might attempt to meet. Jimmy and his film crew fabricate photos that include an actor made up to resemble the mediator. Jimmy later sees the mediator at a store and tells Kim he has a broken arm in a cast, which is not depicted in the photos. Kim abandons her plan to meet in Santa Fe with Cliff Main and representatives of a foundation interested in funding her pro bono criminal defense work and returns to Albuquerque to help Jimmy hastily re-shoot the photos. ("Axe and Grind")

Howard confronting Jimmy and Kim

Kim and Jimmy confronted by Howard.

Howard's investigator delivers the photos to Howard shortly before the mediation session begins. They depict the mediator accepting money from Jimmy and are coated in a drug that causes Howard's pupils to dilate. He angrily accuses the mediator of accepting a bribe, and when he attempts to retrieve the photos as proof, he discovers they have been switched for innocuous pictures of Jimmy. As Kim and Jimmy listen in on the conference call, Howard is humiliated in front of his clients and peers, and HHM and Davis & Main agree to settle the Sandpiper case. Cliff announces through the conference call that a settlement agreement has been reached as Kim and Jimmy have sex on Jimmy's office couch.

Jimmy and Kim terrified

Kim and Jimmy horrified by Lalo's presence, moments before he murders Howard.

After the mediation concludes, Howard pieces together the whole plot, including Kim and Jimmy's success at causing him to rely on a fake private investigator. That night, he arrives at Kim's apartment to confront her and Jimmy. Lalo arrives soon afterwards, intending to interrogate Kim and Jimmy about the assassination attempt on Lalo's life, and get Jimmy to murder Gustavo Fring. Jimmy and Kim are absolutely horrified by Lalo's appearance while Kim tries to get Howard to leave. When Howard asks Lalo who he is, Lalo states nonchalantly he is nobody and that he merely wishes to ā€œspeak to my lawyersā€ (much to Jimmy and Kim's alarm). They both nervously implore Howard to leave immediately, but Howard remains oblivious to his danger, sarcastically telling Lalo to find himself better lawyers. Lalo affixes a silencer to a pistol and, once Howard finally realizes his peril, suddenly shoots Howard in the head, instantly killing him. Jimmy and Kim both scream in horror at what has just occurred before them, as Lalo shushes them to calm down, saying, "Let's talk." ("Plan and Execution")

Kim-wexler-1200x800

Kim explaining the Lalo situation to Mike and his men, who alert Gustavo Fring.

Lalo orders a terrified Jimmy and Kim to calm down and sit on the couch. Handing them a written address and a map, he tells the couple that he wants Jimmy to take Lalo's station wagon to the address, use a revolver in the car's glove compartment to shoot the occupant when he answers the door, and take a photo of the body. Eager to prevent her from becoming Lalo's hostage, Jimmy suggests that Kim be sent to perform the task, over her horrified objections. Lalo agrees. Left with no choice, Kim leaves the apartment and drives away in Lalo's car. Kim drives to the address, agonizing over what she is about to do. At a stoplight, a police car pulls up next to her; she rolls down the window and considers alerting the officers inside, but is unable to do so. Kim finally drives into a residential neighborhood and finds the house -- Gus's residenceā€”and reluctantly walks up to the front door, ringing the bell. Just as she raises the revolver and is about the shoot the person answering the door, Mike appears from behind and disarms her, forcing her into the house.

Kim and Jimmy S6

Kim and Jimmy being told by Mike what to do in the aftermath of Lalo and Howard's deaths.

Gus watches through the surveillance monitors at the Ryman residence while Mike questions Kim. Mike is shocked to learn that Lalo is at her apartment and has taken Jimmy hostage, and sends an order for Tyrus to get there immediately. He takes the underground passage to the Ryman residence, tells Gus to stay there with two of Mike's men, then enlists two others to come with him. Watching Kim through the surveillance monitors, Gus calls Victor, who is standing in the room with Kim, and asks to speak with her directly. When asked by Gus why Lalo sent her, Kim tells Gus that Lalo had originally wanted to send Jimmy to kill him, but that Jimmy had talked Lalo out of it by sending her on the mission instead. Gus is suspcious of the fact that Jimmy had talked Lalo out of his original plan, and tells the two men guarding him to follow him somewhere.

After Lalo is killed during a gunfight with Gus, Kim returns home with Mike and runs towards Jimmy; the couple tearfully embrace. Mike sits them down and tells them what is going to happen next: Howard's car is going to be driven several states away and abandoned next to the ocean, staged as a suicide; since the car was likely seen at the apartment before his disappearance, Jimmy and Kim are to tell the police that he showed up in a drug-addled stupor and left uneventfully. Mike stresses to them that they are to act casually for the rest of the day and pretend the events of the previous night did not happen. Jimmy sees Howard's body being stuffed in the old refrigerator while Mike's men wheel a new one into the apartment. ("Point and Shoot")

At Howard's funeral, Kim encounters Howard's wife Cheryl, who interrogates her and Jimmy regarding the suspicious circumstances of Howard's death. Kim relates the apocryphal story of Howard's cocaine addiction, and lies that, during her time as an assistant at HHM, she encountered Howard using cocaine late at night. Jimmy goes to Kim's room to retrieve a printer to create these letters, but instead finds Kim has already packed all of her belongings. Kim explains to Jimmy that, when they are together, they are hurtful to those around them. Jimmy blames Lalo for Howard's death, but Kim explains how she believes that she was at fault, and that she was having too much "fun" ruining Howard's life, and how her and Jimmy have to break up to stop hurting those around them. Through tears, Kim finishes packing up her suitcases despite Jimmy's protests, and leaves shortly afterwards. With Kim's departure, Jimmy had lost everything that kept him grounded; his family, his elder practice, the McGill name, and now Kim. All that was left is Saul Goodman. Kim breaking up with Jimmy causes him to decide to fully embrace his Saul Goodman identity, believing that he now has nothing left to lose. ("Fun and Games")

Cheryl is overwhelmed, her longstanding suspicions confirmed. Kim says that Howard "didn't suffer", but Cheryl angrily retorts that his reputation was thoroughly ruined because of the lies Kim and Jimmy told. Kim informs Cheryl that she has given a copy of her affidavit to the district attorney, but it is unlikely she will be prosecuted or that Howard's body will be found. However, when Cheryl notes she could file a civil suit and take everything Kim has, Kim does not discourage her from doing so. Kim flies back to Florida. Personality and traits

Kim working at HHM

Kim during her early law career, working at Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill (HHM).

"A smart and hardworking lawyer with an ambitions two-year plan, Kim Wexler has worked her way up from humble beginnings to become one of the go-to litigators at Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill. Kim's history with Jimmy complicates their working relationship, and may ultimately compromise her own career goals."
―Information about Kim[src]

Kim is shown to be a highly intelligent, dedicated, caring, formidable and loyal woman who is a highly skilled lawyer. Despite a poor upbringing in Nebraska with a neglectful and shoplifting mother and few opportunities to thrive, Kim was able to get out and make something of herself, becoming one of the best lawyers at Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill (HHM) as a result. Kim is shown to greatly cherish her work and her ability to help her clients and further the interests of her law firm. She is highly skilled at negotiation and devising legal strategies in order to get her clients the best deals possible, which earns her the praise of many lawyers. Despite poor treatment from her boss Howard Hamlin, Kim initially does not let grudges consume her and keeps her head down and works strongly to dig herself out of problems, showing her fearlessness and independence.

Jimmy and Kim

Kim with Jimmy McGill, her boyfriend and later husband.

During her relationship with him, Kim was shown to love Jimmy McGill unconditionally for his initial kindness and humorous nature, and was a dedicated friend, girlfriend, and wife towards him. She showed compassion for Jimmy on numerous occasions and sympathy for the poor treatment he suffered at the hands of his older brother Chuck and also Howard while operating under Chuck's orders. She personally defended Jimmy on numerous occasions despite being well aware of his own unethical actions, showing her care for him. Despite this Kim herself had shown shock and disgust at Jimmy's shortcut schemes and dirty tactics to achieve his goals, and also anger when his actions caused her to be punished and put her own career in jeopardy.

Saul and Kim

Kim and Jimmy watching a movie.

There was however a dark side to Kim and she appeared to secretly admire Jimmy for his ability to get his way through unethical actions and masterfully crafted cons. She initially found thrill in tricking others alongside Jimmy for personal gain and later enlisted him to use his manipulation skills to further her own work agendas, such as swapping out a series of blueprints that will give Mesa Verde a larger branch. As revealed by flashbacks, Kim had always had a darker side, shoplifting with her mother as part of a con as a child and continuing to wear the stolen earrings and necklace to after she divorced Jimmy in late 2004, only that she unconsciously kept it hidden inside her.

Kim Wexler smile

Kim's smile after Jimmy defends himself to Howard.

While not as skilled as Jimmy, Kim herself was shown to be manipulative and cunning and was capable of devising intricate, illicit schemes herself to help her or Jimmy's clients as seen by her plan to spare Jimmy's bodyguard, Huell Babineaux, years in prison through a series of deliberate scams painting him as a beloved hero in his home town. Despite her awareness of Jimmy's misdeeds on numerous occasions, Kim never shifted her loyalty away from Jimmy and fully supported him and helped him fight back when he was in trouble, notably by aiding him in proving his brother's mental illness in court in order to exonerate Jimmy. Despite having a role in the events that lead to Chuck's death, Kim showed great remorse for helping to tear Chuck down and was strongly impacted and saddened by his tragic suicide.

Despite this, Kim was shown to be greatly ignorant, even willfully as she appeared to not even grasp that Jimmy had no true remorse for his brother's suicide despite being partially responsible himself, and instead angrily attacked Howard for suggesting Chuck killed himself and for attempting to hurt Jimmy, even though he didn't care less and that was in no way Howard's intention. She appeared pleased to see him express genuine remorse for Chuck's death during his reinstatement hearing, though was absolutely shocked in the end when he revealed it was an insincere performance to regain his law license.

Howard and Kim

Kim with her former boss, Howard Hamlin, who she and Jimmy later schemed against to force an early resolution of the Sandpiper settlement.

In 2004, Kim's personality changed dramatically, mainly for the worst. She appears to be conflicted over whether to do the right thing or resort to unethical measures to get her way and help her clients, though at Jimmy's urging she appeared to prefer the unethical route. Kim still displayed kindness as seen by her sympathy towards Everett Acker for wanting to keep his home and she willingly conspired against her primary clients, Mesa Verde, with Jimmy's help though even she showed disgust at his actions that were against her wishes. However instead of reprimanding Jimmy for humiliating her, she instead proposed marriage in order for the two to no longer keep secrets from each other.

Despite Jimmy's involvement with Lalo Salamanca and the Cartel, Kim remained loyal to him as seen by her defending him against Lalo after he correctly deduced Jimmy was attacked in the desert while retrieving his bail money. It was evident by this point that Kim willingly chose the path of conning and manipulation as she quit her position at Schweikart & Cokely in order to focus on public defender work like Jimmy. She displayed an even darker side as she laughed at Howard after he revealed to her Jimmy's harassment towards him after offering him a job at HHM and took great offense to his words that she was not making her own decisions when he likely correctly assumed that she quit her job because of Jimmy's influence. Her ignorance was further proven when she claimed she knew Jimmy best and that Howard was wrong.

Kim and Jimmy begin the Howard scheme

Kim begins the plan of scheming against Howard by suggesting to Jimmy that they do so, showing her dark side for the first time.

She later praised Jimmy for his harassment of Howard and even offered ways of how to further torment him, showing that she had become somewhat sadistic. Her seriousness of going through with the plan of destroying Howard's legal career for her and Jimmy's financial benefit showed that she had been seduced and inspired by Jimmy's unethical behavior and had gone down a path of darkness herself, something that even stunned and shocked Jimmy himself.

Better-Call-Saul-Jimmy-Kim-Season-6-Episode-7

Kim and Jimmy horrified as Howard is murdered by Lalo Salamanca.

Kim continues to take a drastic turn for the worst and has displayed even darker traits. She shows even more enthusiasm and intent than Jimmy to bring Howard down and is the main mastermind behind the intricate scheme to utterly humiliate and deceive him to force an early resolution of the Sandpiper settlement by painting him as a cocaine addict. She displayed an even crueler side as seen by her threat to expose and utterly destroy Betsy and Craig Kettlemen if they in any way revealed their plot against Howard or disobeyed them. She was shown to be even more manipulative and cunning; even resorting to taking advantage of the trust of former colleagues, such as Viola, to gain any information necessary to proceed against Howard. She even deceived Jimmy as she chose not to inform him of Lalo's survival and was shown to be utterly terrified of the prospect of him returning. As her and Jimmy's con against Howard continued, Kim was given the chance to get out of the criminal lifestyle and embrace her dream job as a public defender using Clifford Main's connections as an unexpected bonus of their scheme. However, when things went wrong and Jimmy insisted they abort and re-plan their con, Kim chose to turn her back on the chance to go back to legitimacy and race back to help Jimmy fix their con, which sealed her fate as a con-woman and criminal. Her sadism was evident after her and Jimmy's plan against Howard succeeds as they were shown having sex whilst listening to the outcome and even made Jimmy let Howard into their apartment to bask in his misery. Howard declared her to be just as soulless and sadistic as Jimmy and displayed disgust at her willingness to use her talents for selfish desires, though his words completely fell on deaf ears.

Kim breaks up with Jimmy

Kim breaking up with Jimmy.

However, her and Jimmy's actions had severe consequences as Howard was murdered by Lalo shortly after, and both Kim and Jimmy were shown to be utterly horrified at the sight of Howard's brutal, senseless murder. When confronted by Mike Ehrmantraut, Kim showed signs of severe stress and worry for Jimmy, fearing Lalo might kill him. Kim was also shown to be remorseful when, following Lalo's death after a gunfight with Gustavo Fring, Mike mentioned Kim and Jimmy's cocaine addiction con to undermine Howard, a reminder of what led resulted in Howard's death. The murder of Howard and her guilt with her and Jimmy being indirectly responsible for it ultimately lead to Kim's decision to retire from her law career, leave Albuquerque, and break up with Jimmy, explaining to him how she believed that she was at fault (despite Jimmy's pleas for her not to leave him and reminding her that Lalo was solely responsible for Howard's death), and that she was having too much "fun" ruining Howard's life, and how her and Jimmy have to break up to stop hurting those around them.

Months later, she is shown to be disturbed and disgusted by Jimmy's callous attitude when she returns months later for a divorce, having fully become Saul Goodman following Kim's departure, and dismisses her as just another client during the signing of the divorce papers. Kim's disgust with Jimmy's attitude is shown during her conversation with Jesse Pinkman, with Kim telling him that Jimmy used to be good when she knew him.

Kim crying

Kim breaking down in tears after having a recent refresh of the traumatic memories related to Howard's death.

Despite having moved away from Jimmy and Albuquerque and living a quaint suburban life in contrast to Jimmy's chaotic undercover life as Gene, Kim remained haunted with her role in Howard's demise. In the years that followed, she renounced virtually every element of the person she was before and reverted to being a law-abiding citizen living a mundane life. This shows as when Jimmy called Kim to check in on her six years after their last contact, her first act was to try and convince Jimmy to turn himself in due to his association with Walter White. Jimmy retorts to Kim by saying she should do likewise for her "guilty conscience", further compounding her guilt towards Howard. This prompts her to return to Albuquerque and reveal the truth to Cheryl Hamlin in an effort to rectify the damage she and Jimmy had caused, stating that she is willing to accept any legal action taken against her. The recent refresh of the traumatic memories related to Howard's death finally reached a breaking point within Kim, as she could not hold back her emotions any more and started sobbing uncontrollably in public view. She later attended Jimmy's trial, where he was sentenced to 86 years in prison.

Quotes

"I know we're never supposed to say our clients are guilty, but hey, not my client anymore. He's guilty as sin."
―Kim to Jimmy McGill about Craig Kettleman[src]

"I dig myself out of this hole. You do your job, Jimmy. Prove you can go one weekā€” hell, one day without breaking the rules of the New Mexico Bar Association or pissing off your boss, and don't insult my intelligence by saying you are doing any of this for me. You don't save me. I save me."
―Kim to Jimmy[src]

"I know he's not perfect. And I know he cuts corners. But you're the one who made him this way. He idolizes you, he accepts you, he takes care of you. And all he ever wanted was your love and support. But all you've ever done is judge him. You never believed in him, you never wanted him to succeed. And you know what? I feel sorry for him. And I feel sorry for you."
―Kim to Chuck about his feuding relationship with Jimmy[src]

Howard: "What the hell is this?"
Kim: "I think it's pretty self-explanatory. Look, Howard, you were very generous when I left HHM, but it never sat right with me that you covered my law school loans."
Howard: "Seemed to sit right at the time!"
Kim: "I appreciate the gift, but now that I'm able to afford it, I wanna pay you back."
Howard: "Well, you "appreciate the gift.""
Kim: "Yes, I do."
Howard: "You know what I'm doing in there? Take a guess. I'm doing damage control, and I'm doing it three meals a day for the past two weeks with every one of our clients! I am busting my ass, trying to repair the reputation of the firm after you and Jimmy dragged it through the mud!"
Kim: "I did everything in my power to defend my client."
Howard: "Oh, is that what you're calling it?"
Kim: "That's the job, Howard. And by the wayā€“it was all very convenient for you to ignore Chuck's illness when it suited you."
Howard: "So I take you out of the mailroom, put you through law school, mentor you, and then when you leave and stab me in the back, that's my fault? I'm not cashing this. Kim! Your debt is forgiven, but anything else? That's on you."
Kim: "All Jimmy and I did was show the situation for what it is, and if you are hiding that from your clients? Well, Howard, that's on you."
―Kim being confronted by Howard after she gives him a check during his luncheon

Kim: "What were you thinking when you came to Jimmy on the day of his brother's funeral and laid that shit on him? That Chuck killed himself? What's wrong with you?"
Howard: "I thought... I thought I owed it to Jimmy, to tell him."
Kim: "Owed it to him? Did you owe it to Rebecca? You tell her your theory? That Chuck intentionally set himself on fire? I guess not. I guess you just saved that one for Jimmy."
Howard: "Kim, I didn't do it to hurt Jimmy--"
Kim: "No you did it to make yourself feel better. To make yourself feel better by unloading your guilt. Who cares what it does to Jimmy, right? As long as Howard Hamlin is okay."
Howard: "Kim, I don't think that's fair--"
Kim: "Fair? Let's talk about fair. "Hey let's let Jimmy dig around the fire-damaged wreck where his brother died screaming. And then let's let him pick up a keepsake or two." That is so, so fair. And did I hear you right? You want him to serve on the board of a scholarship committee? A scholarship that Chuck never in a million years would've given to Jimmy. Never! It is just, I mean... Oh what's this too, Howard? What's in this? One last "screw you, little brother" from beyond the grave? Am I really supposed to do this to him?"
Howard: "All right, Kim. What can I do to make it better?"
Kim: "Nothing. There is nothing you can do. Just stay away."
―Kim and Howard arguing about Howard's revelation to Jimmy about Chuck's death.

Jimmy: "Unexpected bonus of the drop-phone business. It turns out it's great for client development."
Kim: "Yes, I guess that's true."
Jimmy: "Sooner or later, every last one those idiots is gonna need an attorney. Of course, they all know me as Saul Goodman."
Kim: "That's just details."
Jimmy: "Gotta say, a lot of people are gonna be begging for the old "Huell Babineaux" treatment."
Kim: "What's that?"
Jimmy: "Our powers combined. People would pay top dollar for us to undo a potentially life-ruining sentence."
Kim: "I think we should only use our power for good."
―Kim and Jimmy on Jimmy's road to Saul Goodman.

Jimmy: "Insincere! INSINCERE! (...) A goddamn year?! What am I supposed to do for a whole year?! (...) I guarantee I'm not selling cell phones for a fucking year, I'll tell you that! (...) A hard pass! And don't tell me I can appeal because once the board hears the word, "insincere", I'm screwed! (...) How do you just prove insincere?!"
Kim: "Jimmy, please! Jimmy, just take a breath, and start from the beginning. Please."
Jimmy: "I was good, Kim. Iā€“I mean, I wasn't stuck up, but I knew my shit! Right?! "What have you been doing during your suspension?", and, "Have you been keeping up with the law?", yadda-yadda. All fine! And then one of them, out of nowhere, comes up with this weird-ass question: "What does the law mean to you?""
Kim: "That's a big one."
Jimmy: "Huge! And I nailed it! I talked about the meaning of the law, and I was down to earth, and I was humble, and I was sincere. And they loved it!"
Kim: "Sā€“So..."
Jimmy: "So, they turned me down!"
Kim: "Well, there has to be more to it than that."
Jimmy: "There's not!"
Kim: "I don't...What did they say when you talked about Chuck?"
Jimmy: "What does Chuck have to do with this? What..."
Kim: "So, you didn't even..."
Jimmy: "Why would I?"
Kim: "Okay. Okay, um...Okay, listen, we will figure this out. And yes, you will appeal..."
Jimmy: "They're just gonna rubber stamp..."
Kim: "...we'll appeal this, we won't let them! We'll find a way to make you look sincere!"
Jimmy: "Kim, I was sincere!"
Kim: "I know that. I meant we will fix it."
Jimmy: "I might have been a little corny, but I meant every word!"
Kim: "I know that."
―Kim and Jimmy talking on the rooftop after Jimmy was called insincere.

Jimmy: "You don't believe me."
Kim: "Of course I do."
Jimmy: "Jesus, it's right there on your face! You think I'm some kind of low-life..."
Kim: "What?!"
Jimmy: "...some kind of asshole kind of lawyer guilty people hire, right?"
Kim: "No, Jimmy, thatā€”that's not what I..."
Jimmy: "You look at me, and you see Slippin' Jimmy!"
Kim: "I never said that!"
Jimmy: "Yeah, but you thought it!"
―Kim and Jimmy's argument.

Kim: "You wanna know why the committee called you insincere? Because you didn't mention Chuck!"
Jimmy: "What does that have to..."
Kim: "They read the transcripts! They know what happened, Jimmy! They were waiting for you to say something about him!"
Jimmy: "So I'm supposed to make a big, hairy deal about my dead brother at my reinstatement hearing? How is that sincere?! I don't think about Chuck, okay?! I don't miss Chuck! Chuck was alive, and now he's dead, and that's that! Finito! Life goes on, so sue me! Thā€“there it is again! That's why we don't have an office!"
Kim: "What?! No, do not start in on that office! I don't wanna hear another word about that stupid office!"
Jimmy: ""Stupid office?" Okay, here we go! Here we go!"
Kim: "Jimmy! I have been on your side since the day we met! Who comes...running when you call?! Who cleans up your messes?! I have a job, but I drop everything for you! Every single timeā€”you confessed to a felony on tapeā€”I'm there! You have a bar hearing? I represent you over and over again! If you need me, I'm there! But somehow, in your mind, the only measure of my feelings for you isā€”is some office?!"
Jimmy: "I'm good enough to live with, to sleep with, but God forbid you should have an office with me."
Kim: "What are youā€”I just told you that..."
Jimmy: "You get a little bored with your life, so you come down, and roll around in the dirt. Have some fun with Slippin' Jimmy then back up!"
Kim: "Oh, is it fun?! Fun, like lying to the ADA to get your friend out of the shitter? Or fun like standing there with a smile plastered on my face while you play infantile mind games on my law partner?"
Jimmy: "Oh, what a mistake it was to take me up to your office in the sky! You'll never do that again!"
Kim: "Yeah, maybe I won't. And maybe next time you call, I won't come."
Jimmy: "There you go! Kick a man when he's down!"
Kim: "Jimmy, you are always down."
―The unspoken come to light between Kim and Jimmy.

Kim: "I know who you are... who you actually are. We have something in common. You want to know where your money is. I want to find Saul Goodman. If you tell me where you sent him, I won't alert the authorities. I won't tell anyone. I will find him, and you'll get your money. Mr. Salamanca..."
Lalo: "Who the hell are you that he tells you my business?"
Kim: "He didn't betray your confidence. We're married, which means I have spousal privilege... anything he says to me stays with me. No one can make me discuss it. It's as bulletproof as lawyer-client privilege."
Lalo: "So you're his wife?"
Kim: "Yes."
Lalo: "Una guera. Bien por Ć©l. So, you're his wife, and you... love him. And he didn't come home last night, and you got scared enough to come down here and talk to me. What makes you think he didn't run off with my money, huh?"
Kim: "He did not run off with your money."
Lalo: "Yeah, maybe not. Not without you."
Kim: "Just tell me where you sent him. That's all I need."
Lalo: "I don't think so. Your man... he's, um, he's like the cucaracha... you know, a born survivor. If trouble found him, give it a day. If he's alive, he'll show."
Kim: "Mm. And if he's...?"
Lalo: "Well, then, day's not gonna make a difference, is it? Alright, well... nice to meet you, Mrs. Goodman."
Kim: "Wait, um... Mr. Salamanca..."
Lalo: "Done!"
―Kim talking with Lalo Salamanca about Jimmy.[src]

Lalo: "I just wanna know what happened."
Jimmy: "Iā€“I told you what happened."
Lalo: "Did you?"
Jimmy: "Look... Okay, Iā€“"
Kim: "Are you... Are you kidding me with this?!"
Jimmy: "Kim, rea-"
Kim: "Do you know what he did for you?! Seven million dollars of your money! He hauled it across a goddamn desert without one penny missing! And he got you out of jail for a murder that... let's face it, you're definitely guilty of. He did everything you asked, and way beyond what any other lawyer would ever do. So... what exactly is it that you're getting at? What do you want?"
Lalo: "I found his car in a ravine. Bullet holes on the side. So, I'm just waiting to hear how that happened."
Kim: "Bullet holes? That's it? Look, I don't know what it's like where you're from... But here in New Mexico, you leave a soda can out, someone's taking a shot at it. Thatā€“that... That's what you're on about? You don't think it's possible a couple of yahoos with guns shot up a piece of junk car, and then rolled it down in a ditch, end of story? What kind of operation are you running anyway? Tell me. 'Cause I think I know why you sent him to do this job. It's obvious. You have no one else you can trust. Right? So you sent some lawyer through the desert with yourā€“with your seven million bucks?! Thatā€“No offense, but... you need to get your house in order."
Lalo: "Huh. Really?"
Kim: "Yeah, really! If you don't trust your men with your money, you have bigger problems than if you trust Saul Goodman. And for the record, he doesn't lie. Not to me, not to his clients. He's telling you the truth. But next time you have a bunch of money and no one you can trust, leave him out of it, okay?! Try aā€“a wire transfer, or try a... a shell company, or... You've heard of the Cayman Islands, right?! Jesus! Get your shit together, and stop torturing the one man who went through Hell to save your ass!"
―Kim berating Lalo for mistreating Jimmy as his lawyer.[src]

Howard: "No person in their right mind would behave the way Jimmy has. We are talking about someone whoā€™s not in control of himself. You and I both know it makes no sense to drop a client like Mesa Verde, and I gotta think Jimmy had something to do with that."
Kim: "Do you have any idea how insulting that is? I make my own decisions for my own reasons."
Howard: "You gotta listen to me, the man needs help."
Kim: "Howard, I know Jimmy and youā€™re wrong."
Howard: "You know who really knew Jimmy? Chuck."
―Kim being warned by Howard about Jimmy.[src]

Jimmy: "Come on, Kim. We're not talking about a bar trick here. We're talking about scorched earth. We would have to hurt him. Hurt him bad. To get a bunch of lawyers to run for the exits, Howard would have to have done something... unforgivable. At the end of it, he might never be able to practice law again. He doesn't deserve that. And who knows if we can pull it off? (...) Okay, maybe we could pull it off, but we won't."
Kim: "We're talking about a career setback. A career setback for one lawyer."
Jimmy: "Yeah, and you can up a lot of people. I get it, but... Kim, doing this... it's not you. You would not be okay with it. Not in the cold light of day."
Kim: "Wouldn't I? (...) I'm gonna go take a shower so I don't have to in the morning."
Jimmy: "Kim. You're shitting me, right?"
―Kim and Jimmy on the scheme against Howard.[src]

"You think you lost everything? You have no idea."
―Kim to Craig and Betsy Kettleman[src]

"Do you want to be a friend of the cartel or do you want to be a rat?"
―Kim to Jimmy[src]

"He-He'll kill him! You have to... you-y-y-y-you... You have to let me go. I have to get back. I have to get back!"
―Kim telling Mike Ehrmantraut that she is worried Lalo might kill Jimmy[src]

Jimmy: "You did what?! Why? WHY?! All right, all right, I know why. But Kim, you can't justā€”"
Kim: "Jimmy, Iā€”"
Jimmy: "Shhh! Just let me say my piece, okay? Justā€” Let's take a breath here! Kim, after everything that happened... I mean, Jesus! I get it! You want to climb out of your own skin! That natural! But Kim, you don't just throw everything away! Th-th-this is your life! You're a lawyer! What about your clients, huh? What about, uh... that poor guy, Mr. Yarborough? What about the kid in foster care? Huh? You give them everything you got! Who are they going to find who is half as good as you? No one! They need you!"
Kim: "It's already done."
Jimmy: "Ugh! Okay, what's done can be undone. All I'm saying is justā€”just let's take a week or two to think it over. For now, we're gonna take some time off. God knows we need it. We're gonna to find a new place, we'reā€”we're gonna leave here. We're never, ever gonna come back here again. Okay? We're gonnaā€”we're gonna put it behind us! Things will look brighter! I guarantee it! But first we have to fix this. So we're gonna go back to the hotel room, and you're gonna write letters. You're gonna write a letter to the bar, you're gonna write letters to your clients. Youā€”youā€”you dictate, I will type. We're gonna roll this thing back. I'll order a pizza, we'll pull an all-nighter. Because we're in this together. Okay? So I'm gonna go get yourā€”your printer, and then we're gonna get the hell out of here."
Kim: "Waitā€” Jimmy. Jimmy! [Jimmy enters the bedroom to discover half-full boxes and luggage everywhere] You asked if you were bad for me. That's not it. We are bad for each other."
Jimmy: "Kim. Don't do this. Kim, please."
Kim: "Jimmy... I have had the time of my life with you. But we are bad for everyone around us. Other people suffer because of us. Apart we're okay, but together we're poison."
Jimmy: "No, no. Just tell me what I need to do to change, okay? Just tell me what it is, and I'll do it."
Kim: "Jimmy..."
―The first part of Kim and Jimmy's final conversation before breaking up.

Jimmy: "No, Kim. You make me happy. We make each other happy. How can that be bad? Hey... I love you."
Kim: "I love you, too. But so what?"
Jimmy: "No. No. No, Kim, you're wrong! This is about Howard! Okay? What happened to him wasn't on us! It wasn't your fault! It wasn't my fault! It was that FUCKING LALO SALAMANCA! That psychopath came back from the dead and he walked through that door! He did this! Not us, him!"
Kim: "I knew."
Jimmy: "You knew wh-what?"
Kim: "I knew he was alive."
Jimmy: "No you didn't."
Kim: "It was about a month ago. I saw that car following me again. And it turned out that Mike Ehrmantraut had guys watching both of us, watching for Lalo."
Jimmy: "Mike... Mike told you that Lalo was alive? (...) And you didn't tell me?"
Kim: "Jimmy... I thought... I thought it was a one-in-a-million chance that he'd come for us. I thought he would be caught if he did. And I told myself I was protecting you. But that's not the truth. The reason I didn't tell you was because I knew what you'd do."
Jimmy: "Wh-what would I do?"
Kim: "You'dā€”you'd blame yourself. You'd fear for me. You'd want us to run and hide until you were sure I was safe. You would pull the plug on the scam, and then...and then, we'd break up. And I didn't want that. Because I was having too much fun."
―The last part of Kim and Jimmy's final conversation before breaking up.

Gene: "Hey, Kim. You know who this is? (Kim remains silent) I'm gonna take that as a yes. Uh, that receptionist of yours, is she the type to listen in?"
Kim: "No."
Gene: "Good. Okay. So, how's Florida been treating you? I'm catching you between hurricanes I hope. Kim, are you there?"
Kim: "What do you want?"
Gene: "I don't... I don't want anything. I just... it's been awhile. You know, just thinking it's been awhile, and uh, might be nice to catch up."
Kim: "Catch up?"
Gene: "Yeah, my mind was wandering this morning, I was just not thinking of anything in particular, just random thoughts and bam, it suddenly occurred to me it's been six years. I mean, Jesus. I -- I couldn't believe it. I thought you might wanna know I'm still alive. Yep. Yeah, I'm still out here. Still getting away with it. Feds couldn't find their own ass with both hands and a proctologist."
Kim: "You shouldn't be calling me."
Gene: "Oh, hey, you're awake."
Kim: "You shouldn't be calling."
Gene: "Why not? What am I, tying up the line for important irrigation business? Come on, Kim, say something. Call me an asshole. Yell at me. Just let me know you still got a pulse. Say something!"
Kim: "You want me to say something?"
Gene: "Yeah."
Kim: "You should turn yourself in."
Gene: "Do what?"
Kim: "You heard me. I don't know what kind of life you've been living, but it can't be much."
Gene: "Says the pot to the kettle! What? That is... that is really rich. You... you preaching to me? See, you have no idea what I did or didn't do, okay? And, and why don't you turn yourself in? Seeing as how you're the one with the guilty conscience, huh? What, what is stopping you? Fring's in the ground. Mike's in the ground. Lalo's in the ground, apparently. You, you don't have to hold back on my account! They can only hang me once, so, so go ahead, spill your guts, put on your hair shirt, see what it gets you! Why... Kim, why are we even talking about this? We're both too smart to throw our lives away for no reason. Just... I just... I only wanted to... Kim? Kim? Kim?"
Kim: "I'm glad you're alive."
―Gene and Kim's argument.[src]

Cheryl: "Howard was murdered? (Kim nods) Why?"
Kim: "He was... in the wrong place at the wrong time."
Cheryl: "Where's his body?"
Kim: "I don't know."
Cheryl: "And the police? Will they search again?"
Kim: "They'll search. I don't think they'll find him. Cheryl, he... it... it all happened in an instant and he didn't... he didn't suffer."
Cheryl: "He didn't suffer? The lies you two made up. The picture you painted. That's all he is now. That's all anybody remembers."
Kim: "I wanna change that."
―Kim reveals the truth to Cheryl about the scam and Howard's murder.[src]

Cheryl: "What happens now? Will you be tried? Will you go to jail?"
Kim: "I don't know."
Cheryl: "You're a lawyer, right? You're a, a great one Howard said! How could you not know?"
Kim: "Bernalio County has my affidavit. It's up to the district attorney whether to prosecute. And she may not."
Cheryl: "Why?"
Kim: "There's no physical evidence. No remaining witnesses other than my ex-husband, assuming he's still alive."
Cheryl: "I could sue you in civil court, I could take everything you've got."
Kim: "Yeah."
Cheryl: "Why are you doing this?"
―Kim and Cheryl discuss the potential consequences for Kim and Jimmy's actions against Howard.[src]

Jesse: "Hey, yo... Can I bum one of those? Thanks. [gestures towards the rain] What's up with this shit?"
Kim: "Raining."
Jesse: "Yeah. I dunno, it's... It's crazy! Like, bananas, all this rain. I mean, I thought we were, like, in a desert, y'know? You're a lawyer, right? [Kim turns to him] Yeah. I recognize you. You defended my buddy, Combo. Christian Ortega? Juvie court, little baby Jesus? I mean, not like a real baby. Just, uh... y'know, one of those things outside of the... church?"
Kim: "Nativity scene."
Jesse: "Yeah."
Kim: "Knights of Columbus."
Jesse: "I mean, what the hell did he even want that thing for? Huh? I mean, Iā€”I still don't know, dumbass. I told him he could go to hell for stealing something like that. I meanā€”But did he listen to me? No. But you... You got him off, like, scot-free, that... That was pretty slick, yo!"
Kim: "Well... Tell him I hope he's keeping his nose clean."
Jesse: "Yeah, yeah. Right on. Absolutely. Uh... Hey, so, you having all this expertise and all... This guy, Goodman... [pause] He the real deal? Like, lawyer-wise?"
Kim: "Why do you ask?"
Jesse: "I got a buddy in there who's facing some serious time. I mean, not... y'know, not baby Jesus time, but... but serious. You know, he needs top-shelf legal representation. And I tell him that, right? But, you know, he sees this dude's commercials on TV, and this is where he wants to go. I mean, I tell him, "Yo... Emilio, you know, a funny TV commercial's not a sound... basis for, like, you know... [pause] I mean, like, would you go to a doctor to do, like, an operation on you in, like a... On, like your spleen, or whatever... All on the fact that there was a funny TV commercial? No. I mean, c'mon. How is this any different, y'know?" Anyways... This guy. Any good?"
Kim: "When I knew him, he was."

Trivia

  • Kim's characterization and Rhea Seehorn's performance have received universal acclaim from critics and audiences alike, earning her several accolades (including a pending 2022 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series nomination).
  • Due to Kim's popularity in Better Call Saul, Vince Gilligan hinted at a possible spinoff about her, saying if him and Peter Gould were to do another spin-off, it would be the Kim Wexler show.
  • Kim is the only female main character in Better Call Saul.
  • Kim is the sole surviving main character in Better Call Saul that did not originally appear in Breaking Bad. She and Jimmy are the only main characters in Better Call Saul who survive during the Breaking Bad timeline.
  • Kim is the only Better Call Saul exclusive character to have met either Jesse Pinkman or Walter White, meeting Jesse in "Waterworks" in 2004 after she got her and Saul's divorce papers signed.
  • During her conversation with Jesse and her connection as being Combo's former attorney, Kim convinces him to trust Saul as a lawyer, inadvertently setting the events of Breaking Bad into motion.
  • Kim never meets Nacho Varga, or Gustavo Fring in person, with her and Gus only interacting during a brief phone call. While Kim never met Nacho, she was at the courthouse at the same time as Nacho and stood outside the interrogation room Nacho was in. Before Kim met Mike Ehrmantraut, her confrontation with Lalo was heard by Mike. ("Nacho",  "Bad Choice Road")
    • Kim's meeting of Mike is not the first time she sees him. When he notifies her of no longer being followed by his men and of Lalo Salamanca's survival, she recognizes him as the courthouse's parking attendant ("Hit and Run").
  • Kim, Jimmy, Mike, and Chuck are the only main characters featured in the pilot episode "Uno" that also appear in the series finale "Saul Gone".
  • AMC released ten mini-episodes of Ethics Training with Kim Wexler alongside the fifth season of Better Call Saul, which were presented on both YouTube and AMC's social media sites. This series follows similar series Los Pollos Hermanos Employee Training w/ Gus Fring for season three and Madrigal Electromotive Security Training presented by Mike Ehrmantraut for the fourth season. The ethics training videos are presented as continuing education videos mixing live-action segments of Kim, with Jimmy filming her "behind the scenes" along with animated segments, and are a product of "Saul Goodman Productions". The animated segments include nods to both Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad.
  • Kim lacking a middle name is a nod to writer Alison Tatlock herself not having a middle name, according to the commentary of the episode JMM.
  • Kim's vehicles include:
  • The earrings and necklace that Kim wears throughout the series are the same ones that she and her mother shoplifted when she was a teenager, as revealed in the flashback scenes in "Axe and Grind".
    • After she left Jimmy in late 2004, Kim stopped wearing the earrings for good.
