David is a sommelier at a prestigious restaurant apparently frequented by Gustavo Fring.

History[]

Season 6[]

David chats at length with Gustavo Fring (whom he appears to be well-familiar with) about wine and a trip he took to Europe while in college. Gus listens intently as David talks; David at one point stops himself and asks if he is talking too much, but Gus tells him to continue, interested. Gus also recalls the time he purchased a vintage wine on David's recommendation. David mentions an exceptional bottle of wine that he wants to show Gus, but after David leaves to bring the bottle back, Gus' mood grows grim and he suddenly tells Brett, the barkeep, to tell David that he had been called away, leaving a tip and the red wine he was drinking at the bar. ("Fun and Games")

Trivia[]

  • The interactions between Gus and David during "Fun and Games" feature flirtatious subtext. During an appearance on The Watch podcast, Peter Gould said that Gus' actions in this scene (ultimately deciding to leave before David returns) are part of Gus' struggle to "be himself with another person."[1]
  • Actors Giancarlo Esposito and Reed Diamond were series regulars on the TV show, "Homicide: Life on the Streets".
