Wow! This thread really went off the rails...of course he could've survived/been revived but the ending is VERY similar to the ending of "Ikuru" (google it). It was Vince's inspiration for the Walter White character. The writers said from the start it wasn't going to end well for him. Personally, I think they made him go too bad, too fast from the end of season 4 to season 5 and that was a reaction to so many viewers sympathizing and I believe actually admiring the WW character. But, in the end they couldn't really let him depart without a worthy and redeemable death. They loved him as much as the fans. He's dead! The exagerated slow zoom out of the camera with him lying motionless was putting that "is he really dead?" theory to rest before it gets its first breath. Sorry if that dissapoints. However, there is a chance we'll get to see the prequel. I'd love it if I could find out more about Grey Matter origins (just tm'ed that so send money if the series ever happens.) Not sure how they'd work that into BCS but if anyone can it's this team.

I realized this a long time ago, but can't actually remember writing this thread! I miss this show... "Better Call Saul" had a pretty good first season but I thought it lacked the big punch that BB season finales gave us. It was good but kind of steered it off the tracks to quickly explain how he broke bad (and wound up staying bad). I coulda used more Mike!

Well I like the idea...there's plenty of time to polish it, but overall the test is very good. I watched every episode of BB at least 10 times. While that's extreme, I think you need to binge watch and skip around to capture the well layered plot. My point is after watching Saul, the mood and look, I think, sharply contrasts BB. That's a good thing! These guys are capable of striking gold twice and I think they're on their way. BB had a way of somehow being slow and deliberate yet engaging throughout. I think the "holy sh*t!" moments are slower to emerge in Saul but its building toward something bigger (I know it). I still feel like I'm in the bb universe but someone moved the furniture around. Its different in good ways and similar in good ways. That's my jumbled 2 cents after little sleep...great job on the test!

Haven't been here for awhile but saw the theory on Gus. Obviously Monkeyboy didn't nail every detail but I think youre on to something. After Max was killed, Don Eladio said he didn't kill Gus because of who he knows. who could that possibly be that makes someone as powerful and ruthless as him hesitate? He might be Chilean and maybe that was the true intention when it was originally written but now all bets are off--whatever history was left unwritten in BB is now open to all sorts of possibilites. BTW--I was so stoked when I saw Tuco emerge in the pilot! I know Vince said this isn't Breaking Bad 2.0 but if we're being honest that's kind of what we want. The biggest crime was how short this series ran. The final 8 episodes were great but seemed too rushed, trying to get to the finish line...and I can't wait to hear about Mike's Philadelphia PD background on monday!!!

See, like most fans I spent a great deal of time speculating whom the gun would be used on. We had over a year to think about it. My thoughts were it couldn't be all the parties involved (Madrigal, DEA, Nazis, maybe even the cartel) It just wouldn't have been believable. In season 4, Mike said they could deal with the cartel or Schrader but not both at the same time. And that was the mighty Gus Fring with all his resources! But, it comes down to personal taste--for instance I loved Granite State. I thought Ozymandias and Granite State were neck and neck for the best episodes of the season. Vince Gilligan thought Ozymandias was maybe the best of the whole series and some fans agreed with me, some thought I was nuts, but...I thought they blew Walt up to be infallible, more super hero than man in Felina. I loved it but that's what they did. To have him succeed in his moves against both the DEA and the Nazis would've been waaay over the top in my opinion. That being said, I was EXTREMELY upset with the BB crew promoting the bluray box set with the "alternate ending" I was stoked for nearly 2 months waiting to see that thing and it was a joke. Not just a joke but a joke that's been done before and one that B Cranston started talking about pretty early on in the series. I really wanted to see what else they had for an ending. Whatever. I wouldn't say they nailed the ending, but I also can't say I walked away unhappy which I did for a lot of other shows. Then again, I'm one of those idiots who wants to see a show run until it's no longer good. For me it doesn't tarnish the legacy (whatever the hell that's worth.) I liked Babe Ruth's saying "I don't know if I'll play till I drop but I'll play till I damn near drop!" He did. He was pretty pathetic in the end, more of a side show than a ball player, but very few people remember or even know that. People just refer to him as one of the greatest or the greatest of all time. I thought they should've gone on another 2 years at least. Sadly, I think it's vanity that makes people check out early. I'll give you this...with a few exceptions, the final episodes seemed to be rushing to the finish line. That's not really their style. They don't move slow and deliberate but they take their time to develop characters and story all the while keeping us engaged by with some unparalleled writing.

Yes. I posted on this very site how the shot of Walt staring at his dead brother in law was almost a mirror image of Fring staring at his dead friend. It was the same open mouth cry with no sound. And both men were lying down being restrained--Walt by handcuffs, Gus by the 2 cartel members. But, I think for one, you need to consider the differences between the 2 men. Gus, at least we are led to believe has a fairly lengthy past in the criminal underground. Don Eladio makes a vague reference to this after he kills Gus's Partner. Walt, on the other hand, (and this might be the differences between the viewer who binge watches the whole series and the one that waits a year between episodes)...he hasn't been wrapped up in this very long. I estimate from the point where Walt meets Jessie at Hank's drug bust in the pilot and the point where Hank dies only spans about 18 months. That's not much time. A hell of a lot has happen but little time has past. Walt would have a harder time moving on, I think and just going into scarface mode. Plus, there's no indication Gus sprang into action to avenge anything. His relationship with the cartel went on for a couple of decades somewhat amicably before he made his moves. I could also argue that although Walt was shaken the day Hank died, he wasn't really lying down for long! Remember at the vacuum repair shop he was plotting something to hit all the guys involved in Hank's murder and to get his money back. Then, when Saul refuses to help, he tries to threaten him but his health is failing (not so much his mental state.) His mind set doesn't go into surrender mode until hes out in the woods some 2500 miles away. That's the most vunerable we ever saw him and it doesn't take much to get him on his feet again. Actually, all he needed to do is go back into civilization for 10 minutes and he gets it back quick. I guess my thoughts are that it wasn't the right time for him to spring into action. If Hank doesn't call Marie right before he dies, a different scenario plays out but I wouldn't over think that too much.

Never tried it but those packets are probably sealed with an adhesive at the top and bottom. Maybe a razor blade, steam it and it comes apart or it might just open like a bag of chips. After that you just reseal it by putting a tiny drop of glue and spread it with the tip of your finger, squeeze and presto! Lydia Oh Lydia Walt poisoned your Stevia Lydia the tatooed lady!

Both responses are correct with the more pertinent one being SinisterAmazon. Victor was spotted at the scene by witnesses. A careful criminal doesn't let that rest. And, it was a nice bit of symbolism in the message he sent to Walt and Jessie--I can kill anyone with no emotion in this lab. The last part is more speculation on my part but it jibes with his character, I think and also with how the BB writing staff uses symbolism and foreshadowing.

I couldn't read your original response in its entirety. There was a weird bar at the bottom that didn't open up. I guess the panicked state Walt was in after returning from the desert was he did not have all the facts. Yes. He assumes Hank is working alone based on Jessie's assumption he shared with him a few episodes back in the desert. But, he is not 100%. The facts are 2 DEA agents will soon be declared MIA. Marie knows Hank was going after Walt. Neither Saul nor Walt know where Huel is (which remember that's the main reason Saul initiates his own decision to dissapear.) Plus, Walt was visibly traumatized when he saw Hank die. You make some good points but I think his behavior or panic as you saw it were credible given the crazy events that just went down. Walt was in a rush. He was distraught and in a hurry, but that's sort of understandable. He wanted to collect his family and didn't have time to consider how they'd react. That's believable because the last time he saw Skyler she was 100% devoted to him and the life she chose. ALL of that changed while he was in the desert. Marie made her tell Walt Jr, which was terrible for her but I think it was actually a huge weight off her chest. She was ready to turn on him to save her children or at least have a chance of being able to raise them.

In my mind, there is no doubt this was going to be a murder-suicide. If you think about it, the only way he could've survived would've been to lay down. Once he did this at least half the guys in the room would've instinctively hit the deck as soon as they heard the first shots. BUT, with no warning and no time to think about what's going on they wouldn't likely be able to react quick enough. Jessie was actually a good distraction because everyone in the room was watching the fight on the ground. Eventhough he still hated Jessie right before they met in the clubhouse, I doubt he went there with the intention of killing him with everyone else. An ideal execution of his plan was to get inside and kill the nazis. He needed to bring up Jessie to give him the time to retrieve his keys, and of course to keep himself alive long enough to kill everyone. At THAT point, (waiting for Jessie to arrive) I think he was going to kill Jessie. But, of course, when he saw what they had done to him as a result of his own actions/decisions decisions, he was nearly overcome by guilt and made the snap decision to spare him. In short, there was no other way. Walt had wanted a quicker death, but saving Jessie prolongd his life a bit more than he had intended.

I guess if I had to rank it by seasons, then season 5 would be at the bottom of the list. That being said, I'd say they executed better than any other show has managed to do thus far--(Sopranos, Dexter, etc, etc.) But, as I read your comment, it surprised me what you found unbelievable. Jesse had been lied to over and over right to his face. He killed for Walt, helped Walt kill people and unwittingly aided the man responsible for poisoning someone he cared about. If I were going to pick apart things that were unbelievable I'd start with the Nazis thorougly searching Walt but not his car. Or that the gun managed to kill everyone neatly in the clubhouse and the one guy outside of it, sparing only Todd to be poetically strangled by Jessie! But, I loved the whole scene anyway. Saul had a gun pointed at him. Jessie was in enraged. It's completely plausible and I think very likely he would spill the beans (no pun intended) about the ricin cigarette.

That's funny you mentioned that (and yes I think the poster above got it right, they just didn't want to show the brand on TV.) I've been looking for a replica of the green military jacket Walt wears in Live free of die (at Denny's) then again at the end of Granite State and Felina. I've kept an eye open for it since July 2012, but nada. I haven't been scowering the internet but if I find it and it's reasonably priced (50 bucks or less)I'd like to get it. My wife thought that was weird and it feels good to know there's someone else who wants items like that. Another poster, awhile back, was looking for Walt's burner cell phone. BTW--I just did a google images search for "Dickie blue mens jacket" and it definetly matches the one in your picture perfectly, except it looks more black. I'm not sure what ripping the patch off will do to the clothes but you're definetly gonna wanna try and get it off for authenticity purposes.

It's not an imporrtant question, but an interesting one if you're really into the details like me. A long time ago, I brought up all the characters who I wanted to know more about (back story.) Yes. Jesse's parents thought of him as the favorite son, even after his problems took hold, something his brother made us aware of. But, also it seemed that Walt saw potential in him back in high school. And as dopey a character as Jessie plays, his meth is better than Gale's and all the qualified chemists the cartel assembled. As far as private school, I wouldn't rule out that his parents may have sent him there. He screwed around, maybe got thrown out landing him at J.P Wynne, a fate that would send him down a crazy road to hell! That's just one possibility. A lot of parents would never send their kids to military school. Jessie's parents are obviously very into their son Jake's education, but seem a bit liberal. I doubt they'd send Jessie to military school for disciplinary reasons. Maybe his parents partially blamed the public school system for Jessie's downfall, and decided to shield Jake as best they knew how. And yet another theory--not all public schools are the same. J.P. Wynne seems to have a pretty good mix of college candidates and low level gangsters (Emilio was a classmate of Jessie's.) They never say it, but Skinny Pete and Badger are probably high school friends as well. Just basing it on Walt's house, Jessie's house, the school assembly and Mr. White's classroom, I'd say J.P. Wynne is lower middle to middle class. It's not as good as a private school, but a good school. I believe Skyler mentions that when they do a flashback of her and Walt looking to buy their new "starter home." There is so much more I want to learn about this character. I really hope to see him in "Better Call Saul". A lot of parents use tough love, but the way the Pinkmans basically disowned Jessie seemed a bit over the top. OR NOT...Exactly what did he do to his parents? He either moved out (or got booted out) while he was still in high school to live with his Aunt Jenny? We got to know him pretty well. He has a past but was most definetly not a bad kid. I have no doubt he loved and cared for his aunt when she was dying. Are his parents assholes? They seem to be good, attentive parents to their other son, so like I said earlier it's very intriguing.

The waiting became absolute torture! And, I know season 5A came out on netflix during or immediately after 5b aired. So if you think your wait was tough, try doing it 9 or 10 months a year for 5 or 6 years! (Actually I think the wait between seasons 1 and 2 was over a year, but I didn't start watching it live until season 3.) And, yes...I made the point many times. It just always came up in conversation and I frequented these forums often. I'm not quite sure what you meant though when you said: " ...Further evidence is how digitally accessible it is. VG claims he wants everybody to be allowed to experience this excellence, but come on, we know him better than that." Do you mean he wants viewers to tune in rather than wait so BB gets the higher ratings? Anyway, another interesting point is how this show, despite being widely regarded as the greatest of all time, may owe a lot of its sucess to Netflix or Itunes. VERY few people tuned in for seasons 1 and 2 despite how the critics praised it. Netflix customers checked it out by chance or because a friend suggested it to them. They got hooked one by one during those loooong hiatuses, sort of snowballing into a ever growing number of viewers for the AMC broadcasts. I'd say that I would've checked it out by now if it hadn't been available on netflix, but I really don't think it would've went on this many seasons without those binge watchers. It's crazy the way we've evolved as TV viewers in just a few short years! I actually remember saying in another post how I'd like for every series to be available for binge watching. I mean these shows all have the means to do it like House of cards does on netflix now. I wouldn't mind putting up 40 bucks or whatever to watch a full season of a good show, AND the networks could still air the episodes on TV with commercials for free. One person made the argument for spoilers, but I personally have never had a show spoiled for me by posts on FB or twitter. I going on a bit. Sorry. It's been a long time since I written on this site. To get to your original point more specifically--yes. Breaking Bad is far more enjoyable when you binge. The anticipation between episodes and/or seasons is a lot of things, but none of them are good imo. And some of those cliff hangers almost make you feel like the writers are taking some pleasure in torturing you! Of course, it's the basic rule of entertainment--leave them wanting more, but if I had the patience I would've waited for the whole series or at least the whole season to end before I watch them. Of course I lack that discipline. Now I actually envy the people who get to watch it from start to finish!

Start with the pilot, definetly! It's my favorite TV series of all time, but if I'm being honest, my first viewing of the pilot didn't impress me much. Maybe it was the mood I was in, plus at that time in my life, I had no idea TV could be this good! If you're not engaged after the first episode, trust me--keep watching!!! You will be hooked, and when you're done you'll most likely want to watch it all again. Then, I guarantee you you'll have a new appreciation for the pilot.

Yeah. I couldn't agree more. And after holding that barrel in my hands there was little chance of me walking home without it! I'll bet the documentary gets released down the road as a stand alone purchase....well, maybe. But, you're absolutely right! A lot of that stuff we didn't need but the real diehard fan would enjoy. Most of us wanted the documentary and I think it was a bit of a dick move to only making it available to the people who shelled out over 200 bucks! I wanted the whole set. But, I could definetly see a fan who already owns all the seasons not wanting to get the barrel but just buying the final season with the doc included.

I can respect that opinion, but really...most people wouldn't consider me dopey. I do have a degree in English and I've had to get through some books that would bore the average person to death. I do find the Wire engaging, but when you throw it in the ring with BB, it just doesn't compare to me, and yet there is still the argument. So I'll be the first to say I don't know everything, but trying my best to be objective (and rewatching the wire) I just don't see what those other people see. I see a great show, but not one that is better than BB. Something truly unique to BB for me is that I rewatch those episodes almost obseesively and I don't tire of it. I can't say that about any other movie or TV show I really enjoy. I'm not being overly dramatic, just sincere when I say my feelings toward BB go beyond just entertainment. I've never felt a connection to any work of fiction as I have to it. And, I've seen and read a LOT of fiction!

You no doubt know a lot more about US law of all sorts than I do. There's cases I hear that are real and then it's blended with a lot of TV drama, so I'm never sure exactly what is what. But, based on that observation, I have a feeling that what Saul told Walt in the basement of the vacuum repair shop was mostly true. If within a year or so if the DA didn't have Walt they would've come after Skyler. Now, even though Saul doesn't go into it--if he had had a deeper more detailed conversation, he probably would've said she needs a serious bank flow to keep the best lawyers fighting to keep her out of court, then maybe finding a loophole to get her out of trouble. My personal belief is that the courts really can be blind to prejudices such as religion or race, BUT money on the other hand is treated with considerable biased. You could also back up that argument (at least in the writer's eyes) as they make it a point to show a close up of a very young, very nervous public defender. He looks at her rather than the intimatidating grownups staring at him from across the table. The dissapearer guy also makes a point of saying how young and dopey her lawyer looks in "Granite State". But, I'm sure you could ask anyone of the millions of U.S. prisoners who are doing time. I'm sure they didn't have too much confidence in their legal defense team. I'm not saying they were all innocent, but percentage wise there are waaaay more poor guilty people doing time in contrast to the rich guilty people who have a slight blemish on their wrist as they walk aroungd the country club. But, one thing I don't get is that she had been laudering money. They were able to buy the car wash so for what reason could you explain they took it from her so fast? Obviously, it didn't throw up too many red flags when they bought it. I'm certain the White's (as a teacher and part time book keeper) didn't have the credit to buy such an expensive business (800k). So they paid cash. They must have paid taxes on the "gambling winnings" to legitimize having the money. Whatever. The whole time they owned it I assumed it was legitmate in the eyes of the law and with Saul's help it was legally unimpeachable. So why was it seized without any proceedings, or do you think they just didn't show us that?

Yes. I know exactly the scene you're talking about. I believe it'sSkyler that brings it up. Hmmm. That's some interesting stuff. So you're saying there's nothing on the recorded phone call (Walt to Skyler) that could be interpretted as a confession by a highly skilled D.A.? Even when he says "You're never going to see Hank again." Then he says that Hank crossed him. But, what about the nation wide manhunt? Is that something that ever happens to a guy who is basically just wanted for questioning?
