The only upside to Breaking Bad leaving us for good is that it raised the bar for other TV dramas. I've been binge watching some shows. Before you get too excited, none really come close to Vince Gilligan's masterpiece. But, there are some really good shows that I've warmed up to and would recommend to people on this forum. Here's a short list:

1. Justified--if you haven't seen it yet, I'd urge you to check it out. Vince Gilligan is actually a fan of the show. If I could give you some advice...you can pretty much skip the first season. They basically spend their time introducing new characters so instead of playing like the serial it is, it's more like a new bad guy every week which doesn't really entertain me. I think the reason TV is beating movies is because TV gives the writers time to develop characters and plot points. You probably won't hate season 1 but the real show doesn't get going till around season 2. Maybe watch the pilot, though. They introduce an important reoccurring character.

2. The Americans--I only just started watching this the other day and I'm gratefully addicted. It takes place in the 1980s (Cold War era) and centers aroung 2 Soviet Spies who are married together with kids. That may sound like the plot of an 80s Chevy Chase comedy, but it's is surprisingly well put together. The back stories and evolution of the characters remind me of BB a bit. Season 2 hasn't aired yet but season 1 actually beat out The Bridge in ratings. The Bridge btw is a very popuar new show that critics love, but I haven't been able to get into yet. (The autistic border agent is annoying to me, but I hear it gets a lot better. It's just not on my list.) The Americans, on the other hand, will suck you in right away. I'm 6 episodes deep and still very much anticipating episode 7!

3. Banshee- I can't exactly put my finger on why yet, but I really enjoyed this show. I'm not a huge fan of action, and this show is loaded with it. Tons of hand to hand, gory violence! The sex is almost as gratuitous as the violence on this show. I think there's a sex scene in every episode. I guess it's a cinemax thing...but it doesn't take away from the story which is fairly well written despite it's hardcore, no holds bar approach! Without giving away the pilot all together I'll try to sum this up--it's a small town that's controlled by this underground, formerly amish man (before he was shunned.) There's a new, no nonsense Sheriff coming to town and due to stopping in at the wrong bar at the wrong time, he'd replaced by our protagonist (a serious bad ass with a dark criminal history who's on the run from even badder criminals.) Ok, if you described the show to me like that I might not even try it, but trust me it's worth a shot. At least watch the pilot. If you hate it you probably won't like the rest of the season. If you like it, as I did, you'll most likely want more!

That's my short list. If you have any shows that might fill the void left by BB please let me know here.
